Seems someone got the whole thing seriously wrong, but evidently there was a casting call for actors for a Cadillac commercial that was looking for "alt-right" or "neo-nazi" types.

Cadillac caused a stir this week when a casting service put out a request on behalf of the American luxury brand looking to fill the role of an "alt-right (neo-Nazi)" in a new commercial. Cadillac denied it had ever authorized the notice and condemned it, while the casting company took responsibility, saying that it had been issued by mistake. Regardless of who did what, the idea had to have been hatched somewhere and by someone, which reveals something far more troubling than a mere streak of poor taste and even poorer judgement in corporate America: the marketability and mainstreaming of an alt-right population, or those "identified variously with anti-globalist and anti-immigrant stances, cartoon frogs, white nationalists, pick-up artists, anti-Semites, and a rising tide of right-wing populism," as Tablet contributor Jacob Siegel wrote in a profile of Paul Gottfried, the alt-right's "godfather."

Hmm, maybe now that the "alt-right" has become just another marketing demographic, we do not have to worry about them taking over the country? I mean, who buys Cadillacs as a status symbol anymore? Not like they are your father's Oldsmobile. Except that, really, it was your father's Olds. So that brand no longer exists. Are we at the point where we can say, "Brietbart: it's not your grandpa's fascism!"? Except, really, maybe it is?

Maybe in whatever alternate dimension you live in. Here, on the real earth, CubanCigar usually has things pegged pretty accurately.

For instance - there is no "alt-right". The so-called "alt-right" are just regular people, pushing back against the demoplicans and the republicrats who have been abusing them for decades. All those in power had a great time poking fun at "tea baggers". At least then, there actually was an organized group. "Alt-right"? There's no such thing. It's a moronic term made up to describe "all those people who haven't been intimidated into toeing the party line".

Instead of "alt-right", how about "independent"???

The alt-right are people who think (according to the man who coined the word who is an unabashed racist and white nationalist) that whites are superior to everyone else and demand the right to call people "niggers" and "fags" but object to being called racist or biased.

You say "politically correct", I say "polite and respectful". Not calling black people "niggers" is NOT being "politically correct", and calling them "niggers" is not civilized behavior.

You, McGrew, seem to be far to smart to lump me with any group, just because I disagree with American style liberals/progressives/democrats. I've come to expect that out of the denser portions of the left. I even expect it from the more obtuse members of the right. But, you? Come on, man.

according to the man who coined the word

Then we should obey his definition and people should stop using "alt-right" to label people who voted straight ticket Republican like they do every year, people who want to play video games without people screaming how terrible they are, people who want to dress up for Halloween, etc. etc. I can do all that and still not call people the n-word, assault women or demand they stay in the kitchen, or whatever else you're thinking of.

It is amusing how you imagine "the masses" to all be wackos like you and cubancigar. The truth is the both of you are in the minority, and your fellow ideologues are all upset that they are on the way out. Your group is typified by close minded horse blinders, and no amount of name calling or truth proclaiming with make reality different. There is a ton of latent racism, and good bit of actual racism, and a huge amount of nationalistic rhetoric.. Trump was the unique candidate that many thought would bring about needed change, don't confuse that sliver of hope for lots of people supporting your crazy. Also, Clinton won the popular vote and the turnout was so low that true Trumpets are less than 20% of the country.

"The left agendas".... For a while I thought you were a bipartisan conservative, but you show your real colors. It really is right vs. left with you, Cuban, and a lot of others. There is no discussion, just right/wrong. You and your ilk are the types who will gladly cut off their own noses to spite their faces... Enjoy your pyrrhic victory while you can, were gonna ramp up 10x more in the next 4 years as a whole new group of young peoe get to vote and throw out the last vestiges if old crotchety paternalistic bigots. Cause yes, that is what your group is. Bigots that come in various shades from "accidental cultural hold overs" to "outright racist shitbags".

The "liberal" and "conservative" policies are often just ideological calls to action which get misused for corrupt policies. You help your masters when you push the divide further with bullshit like "push back from the masses who are tired of the ridiculous left agenda". Now read this very carefully because I am going to tell you something about myself and hopefully it will tell you something about yourself.

I am not white. I am not American. I am not European. I have lived for quite many years in Europe. I have my family ties with people who are married to white European women and most of my college friends are living all over the world. I have lived for around 6 months in USA. I cannot vote in USA elections but such is the power of USA that my government is directly effected by it, my language is effected by it via media and my thinking is effected by it via reading too much crap online. And there is a lot of crap like the one you posted. I am not even christian. And there are many like me. Most of my friends were south American (not Mexican, though) and my best friends were black, both Nigerian who hated each other. I digress.

I have some opinions. I consider myself left to the center. I was raised by a feminist mother and my father is university professor. There are a couple of issues that I don't agree with on-point with liberals, i.e., the communist deconstruction of the world. The first time I mentioned it on Twitter, I was told that I support Broke Turner, was compared to some white dude who killed some people (I never bothered to research it, my country doesn't allow people to have guns so it is of no use to me). I was told I am alt-right.

Now you tell me that alt-right was coined by some dude you hate. And you tell me it is because you are not racist and that guy is. You know what? Both of you are racists and that is the fact. When I left Europe back in 2010 I proclaimed out loudly that Right is coming and it is coming fast and I was proven right (forgive the pun). You know why? Because you are not liberal. Liberalism is just a hammer for you to put down other people so you can feel good about yourself, to make yourself feel superior and maybe powerful after a resounding defeat. You know who is liberal? Every poor man is liberal because he doesn't have time to think about other people. Children are liberal for they don't care much about ego. Liberalism is by nature politically correct - IT IS EASY.

It is YOU who gave importance to whoever coined the term alt-right. It is YOU who gave alt-right a personality. It is my civil-disobedience to accept that personality and then show you what it really looks like. You and very disappointingly mcgrew have shown exactly what I mentioned in the very first line of my comment: grouping together under loosely defined definitions and then name-calling and bad-mouthing each other. I have never been a racist - I challenge anyone to show anything racist I have said. YOU have called me alt-right. Ergo alt-right is not racist. QED. But you don't have the balls to go to some politician and say - "you are wrong, alt-right is not what you say, it is different". YOU are his supporter. It is EASY for you to say otherwise to me.

THIS IS why Trump is there and world is still not going ape-shit insane. Democrats made him, not just by funding but by literally running his campaign for him. And also, you fight incorrectness with correctness, you fight correctness with political correctness. For as long as Trump is president you should remember that you cannot fight incorrectness with political correctness, because Truth doesn't need adjective, much less one named "political".

I have been called nigger by many who agree with me on the points that actually matter to me. I also stand with many who hate being called the n-word but agree with me. The racists are no worse than the many liberals who would throw me under rock for being "almost certainly not a she" (the same people who will say women are biologically no different than men, thereby showing their double-think).

You're like the addict who doesn't know that they have a problem. There's nothing more I can say to you except to advise you to get a wider perspective.

This is what is called projection [wikipedia.org] which happens very frequently with the politically correct. Lecture about getting a wider perspective, from a guy who doesn't even know his own goddamn local politics. Seriously, with the amount of disappointment liberals have with their countrymen, why are they so much for gun control?

I'm going to post high-up because lazy. And others have held down the trolling portion of the discussion pretty damn good. But speaking of generalities, the summary implies that Cadillac is an obsolete brand associated with grannies.

A word search for "Cadillac" revealed nothing outside of the summary, it's not in any comments, so I'll make one. The Cadillac brand is not only associated with stodgy White grandparents, but also younger niggers with too much unearned money on their hands. It's why the Cadillac Escalade is the SUV of choice for the up-and-coming nigger after being cut his first check from Levy Goldstein's rap record label or from the NBA during their rookie season.

But there is another demographic to which Cadillac is trying to pander now -- the young professional Catholic. This is why the Cadillacs in all recent ads are colored black, and fairly recently in Wired magazine I saw an ad which additionally featured four faces -- all implied Catholics as there were no female or tranny faces. The four faces were two respectable White men, one token Black man, and a token nu-male with an obnoxious haircut and thick-rimmed glasses; but all clean-shaven and stoic with no real facial expression in the true Catholic fashion. It's hard to decide if Catholics prefer driving shiny black limos-without-the-limo-part or hearses-without-the-hearse-part.
