Amazon has filed a patent for massive flying warehouses equipped with fleets of drones that deliver goods to key locations.

Carried by an airship, the warehouses would visit places Amazon expects demand for certain goods to boom.

It says one use could be near sporting events or festivals where they would sell food or souvenirs to spectators.

The patent also envisages a series of support vehicles that would be used to restock the flying structures.

They're already using drones for this. The US-Mexico border is often trespassed by small drones carrying drug payloads such that they have been attempting to implement countermeasures of various sorts (the most successful was apparently just guys with shotguns, last I read, but they were trying other stuff, might have had a better idea by now).

There's also been lots of drone shootdowns over many prisons too, delivering drugs and cellphones and things. Those are just examples that are heavily patrolled already - it's probably safe to assume they're already used in other places where it's practical more practical than a shady dude in a car or on foot, but that enforcement hasn't got the kind of coverage to track/intercept it reliably enough to notice the patterns yet.
