In Washington, D.C. to protest the results of a certain recent election? You may get the chance to light up at the same time:

Some activists in town for Inauguration Day are willing to risk arrest by planning to go "green." The DC Cannabis Coalition plans to hand out 4,200 free joints the day President-elect Donald Trump will take over the White House, in an effort to keep their hopes of federal marijuana legalization from taking a hit. The group will begin at 8 a.m. in Dupont Circle, then plans to march down to the National Mall in time for Mr. Trump's inauguration. At exactly 4 minutes and 20 seconds into Mr. Trump's inaugural address -- 420 is the commonly known code for marijuana -- thousands of protesters will light up.

[...] "The main message is it's time to legalize cannabis at the federal level," Adam Eidinger, the founder of DCMJ, a group of D.C. residents who introduced and helped get D.C.'s marijuana legalization initiative passed, told CBS affiliate WUSA.

[...] Eidinger also said the protest isn't explicitly anti-Trump; all are welcome, and organizers are happy for it to be a joint effort between supporters of different political parties. The joints themselves will be completely free. "We don't want any money exchanged whatsoever, this is really a gift for people who come to Washington, D.C.," he said.

CBSN is still running fake news segments about cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) as of Jan. 5th.

I'm pretty sure these people will be in the minority, "everyone else" will actually NOT be smoking any pot. Weed truly does replace a lot of pharmaceuticals, with many people having a better response to the weed with less side effects than the pharma drugs. It is also much safer/healthier for society than say... alcohol.

Time to drop the deeply developed prejudice and cultural bigotry, realize you've been led by the nose to promote class/culture warfare. One of Nixon's aids even copped to that fact!
    John Ehrlichman [cnn.com]

Marijuana is probably the best example of propaganda brainwashing, when you look at the actual data compared to alcohol and cigarettes it becomes clear that determined prejudice is the problem and not the drug itself. Hey, I think we can say the same thing about a lot of our current political problems too; on both sides of the aisle, though the conservatives tend to have a larger piece of that pie.

Let's all do jimsonweed instead of marijuana. Jimsonweed is legal, has always been legal, and is more potent than marijuana. So potent you could die.

Here, since you have so much trouble being helpful: Jimsonweed AKA Datura Stramonium [wikipedia.org]

Stuff like this is why drug education is more important than drug prohibition. You teach kids about LD50 (lethal does that will kill 50% of subjects) and they'll know better than to fuck with jimsonweed, and if they do at least they'll be educated about the dangers. See, jimsonweed is too common to be banned along with a bunch of other plants that can have deleterious effects. Since you can't effectively remove it from existence, and you can't police every individual at all times, education is the much better method. Prohibition results in increased crime from the black market and increased harm from a general lack of information. All the facts support this, and the only thing supporting prohibition is the uneducated prejudice developed by crafted propaganda.

I even searched for a link to give you some historical background, this one seems pretty good Timeline [procon.org]

So magically cannabis went from actual medicine to a "dangerous drug". We have thousands of years of cannabis use showing it to be less harmful than alcohol, real life test cases of people outright abusing cannabis yet the worst problem is increased lung cancer (easily mitigated) and relatively minor cognitive effects. The effects on the brain require heavy and continued use, and there is a greater effect on developing brains. Again, education would probably prevent most teens from toking up too much whereas prohibition just makes it "cool" so that more people following the lemming route of "everyone's doing it".

Care to respond with some actual debate? Or are you limited to using a completely different plant to draw a correlation that doesn't exist? PS: as far as I know there is not one recorded death from overdoes of just cannabis, the LD50 is so high it would be easier to kill yourself drinking water.

Given the passage of a pro-cannabis referendum in the District of Columbia, it's reasonable to assume that the majority of the people there are in favour of the availability of cannabis (of course it's hyperbole to say "everyone" is in favour). However, what this group intends to do violates federal law. It isn't merely unpopular: should the law be enforced, they could be prosecuted and (I would guess) fined or imprisoned for their actions. I do see bravery there. Really though, why should bravery be required of those expressing majoritarian political views? Yes, that's a huge problem with democracy--but no one has called for democracy. These cannabis advocates just want their weed, whether for pleasure or for medical reasons. I'm sure they would say that their lives are better when it's available to them. If you're implying that intoxication by the plant amounts to "tyranny" over non-users I think you chose the wrong word, but that is a valid concern.

I was merely saying that these protesters ought not to be expected to take heroic measures to express their wishes. It looks to me as though the federal authorities have been loath to liberalise the law around cannabis; perhaps these protesters are hoping that the new Congress and new president will be more amenable to the idea.
