Autotrader reports a study:

Canadians looking to impress on their next romantic date might want to stay clear of on-demand car services, taxis or even public transit, according to the findings of a recent autoTRADER.ca survey that explores the role of the automobile in modern-day dating. In fact, a whopping 92 percent of Canadians say they find it appealing when their date shows up with their own ride. And don't even think about "borrowing the car" for the occasion – close to half of the population surveyed (48 percent) reported that they would find a borrowed vehicle unattractive or "embarrassing beyond words."

While it is unsurprising a publication called Autotrader would find car ownership is necessary for romance, do the study's claims track? Do today's humans really prefer being picked up for a date by someone who owns a car? Is being picked up on a motorcycle really the least attractive?

For some people, it matters what kind of car it is, more than whether or not you have one.
"At my age, I'm looking for a guy who drives something European..." said one woman to a forum-goer I was once talking with.

    Another blog:
When I was still in community college and a prospective partner was talking to her parents about introducing me, she said their first question to her was, "Oh, what kind of car does he drive?" Upon meeting them, after introductions, they proceeded to tour me around their house explaining, quite literally, how expensive the vintage movie posters and decorative items in their penthouse apartment were.

I think the interpretation there is that the women who care about those things are gold diggers that are best avoided.

It's astonishing to me how shallow women can be while at the same time whining about how shallow men are. If you're going to treat men like walking wallets, then you've got no standing to whine about men not wanting to date ugly fat girls.

But, the attitude itself pretty much ruins the appearance.

There is a subset who like fat chicks.

If ugly is the criterion, however, I think that that needs a different verb.

I'd think that a gal that is "plain" or has "unremarkable looks" might be a choice (with offsetting values like that she has a valuable skillset e.g. high earner, good cook, knows how to make money go a long way).

...but to pair off with a gal who is actually ugly requires a peculiar kind of guy.
