A prominent Putin critic has been found guilty of embezzlement:

Russia's main opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, has been found guilty of embezzlement, local media report. A judge is still reading the verdict in the city of Kirov, but news agencies said it was clear in his remarks that Mr Navalny had been convicted. Even a suspended sentence would bar him from running for president next year.

An outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin, Mr Navalny has denied the accusations, saying the case is politically motivated. A sentence in the retrial, ordered after a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, may take hours to be read out. Prosecutors had asked the judge to hand Mr Navalny a five-year suspended sentence.

In Putin's Russia, you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I find it very interesting how the trolls here automatically link this story to Trump, when it's very much about Russians in Russia.

All of the related stories are from either before when Trump announced his candidacy or before he was getting smeared for links to Russia.

As for the comment, it's a meme I threw in there to see how the eds would react.

That there were a couple of trolls already linking the story to Trumpian politics is not lost on me.

The point I was trying to make is, where are the articles crying foul about corruption in Zimbabwe, or Serbia, or Brazil, or...you know.

Now, that doesn't mean I am a Russian apologist. They're a bunch of crokodil-slamming buffoons with a language that sounds like, "Lisssh fissh foosh kakadaka." They are corrupt as fuck and their military is held together with duct-tape.

But wasn't that the point? That America was the shining beacon of truth and republic democracy? Now we're like the very Russians we despise. Many of our congressional incumbents are greedy fifth-columnist bastards, with a strongly-implied public statement endorsing the assassination of Michael Hastings, sticking our greedy mitts into anywhere we can, and the fifth-columnist bastards attempting to tear our country apart are the very people considered correct by mighty, yet defeatable, forces far removed from the people they claim to represent.

No, it's not Trump's fault. The leftists emboldened under the previous administration are the fifth-columnists. And they must be stopped. The beauty of the American political situation is that it has revealed that leftists have become their own worst enemy, using the tactics of the KKK -- notably, physical intimidation and bussing themselves in from other counties and even states. In support of this system are greedy Silicon-valley executives who fear their H1-B gravy-trains might dry up, as well as internationalists who work toward goals far more sinister.

Bring it on. We won't be the next Germany.

It seems to be true that America is becoming Russia.
