Federal Election Commissioner (FEC) Lee Goodman, who worked to keep online political speech free of federal control, is planning to step down this year, saying that he believes the Internet "is a little bit freer and a little bit safer" than when he assumed his position:

"I know that I am looking to depart the agency sometime this year," [Goodman] said in an interview with The Hill. "I would expect a new cast of at least four commissioners, probably this year."

Goodman, a Republican who joined the agency in 2013, developed a reputation for speaking up when his Democratic colleagues voted to crack down on the Internet and the press. Those included efforts to regulate websites like Twitter, Facebook, and the Drudge Report, and one attempt to punish Fox News over the criteria it used for including candidates in a Republican presidential debate.

Goodman said he believes the threat has subsided. This was due in part to President Trump's election as well as the fact that one of his Democratic colleagues, Commissioner Ann Ravel, stepped down at the end of February.

Is fake news like the NYT back changing their headlines? Or maybe the conservative sites saying Obama is a Muslim. Maybe the current sitting president has a 1% chance of winning. These are major news organizations who are leading with misleading and slightly twisted facts to fit their narrative.

I have noticed 'fake news' bandied about by people who do not want to think a story is true. 'Fake news' is a meme created to be a way for you to effectively not have to go back and resource your material. You can out of hand use your cognitive biases to make snap judgments that do not cause you to rethink what you are seeing. If you do not go back and re-source your material you will eventually just have opinions that do not make any sense logically. It was A/B tested and designed for the very reaction you are having. You have been manipulated. That is the best sort of manipulation. The victim does not even know it.

It is an effective form of persuasion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_for_Radicals#The_Rules [wikipedia.org]
    See rules #2 and #6

You are using rules number 4 and 5. 'nitwit' and 'prostitute'. Poor persuasion, but good signalling to others to join in and attack me.

You may not even realize you are doing it. Trust me the people who do this for a living know exactly what they are doing. They look up to the man who created these rules and treat these gaslighting rules as gospel. You emulate them because they seem cool, confident, and funny. They stick to rule number 2. They inform you what is right and wrong. They do this through humorous shows and mocking. You feel informed and ready to do their fighting for them. They make sure they spoon feed you the info so they do not break rule #2. For when rule 2 is broke the conditioning can be broken as you will start looking yourself into things.

Now lets get back to that Wiretapping
*YOU* are the one who derailed it with your first post. I called you out on it. You want to make it look like it was my fault. When you did it.

Also the wiretapping did happen. Since it is all 'classified' all you can do is speculate what was said. It could be people from mars as far as you really know. 'they' say it is Russians. That could be very well true. But you are playing the telephone game through a filter of people who do not like Trump.

If you look to the original article. The Republican was the only one standing up for free speech. You know the idea you can say whatever you like? Something the 'alt-left' seems to be really digging these days. But only as far as what they say. So maybe it has not changed much?

We got a live one! AC has been derailed on aisle #4! Send the hurt feefees clean-up crew, stat!

Yes, how convenient! An Anonymous Coward pointing out that it is all classified! Coincidence? I think not! If I were you, I would stick with the Martians story, it makes more sense. Oh, you need to be more specific: when you say "people who don't like Trump", that is actually everyone. Some people pretend to like him just to piss off the rest of us.

Remember, scurrilous AC, freedom of speech is not freedom to lie. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own reality.

Maybe if you double down on making fun of me you can try to make a real argument. See Rule #5.

'feefees' you are the you are the one who out of their way to post. Not me. Again you are assigning to me what YOU did. Does your gaslighting BS really work on others? You are mad because I showed you for what you are. Someone trying to gaslight others into thinking what you are doing is me.

You also never answered my original question. Is it only fake if you dislike it? You answered you can tell what is fake news or not. I doubt that very much. Propaganda does not work that way. If it did it would not work.

Yes, how convenient! An Anonymous Coward pointing out that it is all classified!
Uh because it is? But you want to pretend it isnt? Or were you going to pretend that I didnt know that? Not only was it classified there is a good argument it was illegal. FISA wiretaps are not for public disclosure usually. Even then they did not find anything (as admitted to many times by both sides). They made it up. Trump has a good argument they overstepped the 4th amendment. The podesta wikileaks show they had been planning their narratives and lies since this time last year. In persuasion terms it is called boxing. You box your opponent into arguments they would not normally make to make them look crazy.

Remember, scurrilous AC, freedom of speech is not freedom to lie. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own reality.
No you can lie. It just does not mean there are no consequences to those lies. I can think of a couple of examples from the last election too. I will leave that up to your hallucination.

Also again you are assigning to me what you said. By using the word 'scurrilous' you admit as much. My position is in the middle 'maybe true maybe not'. We shall see (I lean towards it smells like BS). You want others to consider your opinion by assigning me blame for the things you are doing.

      that is actually everyone.
In your thought bubble. I know people who like him very much. I also know people who think he is a dick. I can point to nearly 60 million voters who liked him enough to say him over her. I can also point to a large cheerleader group on the internet. But you want to deal in absolutes it seems. I can also point to a group of 60 million that did not like him. I can also point to a group of 120 million didnt care one way or the other. But not 'everyone'.

Neither side wants what is best for you. But they sure will use you and make sure you are properly indoctrinated to 'resist'. BTW resist is the new one to let you fight with the moral authority they let you have. They are manipulating you. I know it is hard to see. But it is quite plane to me.

Remember you derailed the conversation not me or anyone else in this conversation. You can continue to mock (which I am sure you will now do). Or you can step back and realize you are living in a hallucination that others have manipulated you into. Manipulation only works if you do not realize it. I just showed you a small bit . You reacted badly and continued your attack upon me. Not because I was wrong. But because you do not want to be wrong. In everyone's mental movie they are the hero and everyone else is wrong. I opened it a crack for you and you reacted poorly. That is your brain trying to protect itself. The propaganda is designed to do that. You are having a cognitive dissonance fit. Its natural when someone challenges you on your views. You have to be open enough to let others show you what they are thinking. Mocking or belittling your opponent does not make your argument better.

As to why I am 'AC'? Just one word. Stalker. On the old site I had one. The best way to deal with a narcissist like that is to just cut them off.

I am starting to believe that you are a fake AC!

No argument, because there would be no point, since you are not intelligent enough recognize actual reasoning. Like right here: There was no wiretapping of Trump, never happened, there is no classified FISA warrant, and the whole thing was made up out of whole cloth by right-wing nut-job media, what we call "fake news", and evidently you believe it because you are a "fake" AC!

Mocking or belittling your opponent does not make your argument better.

You backbirth of a vermillious catanker! I have no argument! To argue with fake ACs about fake news is to grant both a legitimacy they do not deserve. In cases like this, mockery is called for, probably extreme mockery, until we find out what the hell is going on! Mock! Mock! Extreme Mock!

    > Is fake news like the NYT back changing their headlines?

Depend why, and whether it changed the meaning and was accompanied by a retraction note.

    > Or maybe the conservative sites saying Obama is a Muslim.

Definitely fake news, since they were assailing him before that for having a controversial pastor.
They knew they were lying: fake news.

    > Maybe the current sitting president has a 1% chance of winning.

Bad journalism, but not fake news, since many people believed that based on the data available.

    > Also the wiretapping did happen.

    Any support for the claim?

    > The Republican was the only one standing up for free speech.

Agreed. TFS examples are pretty bad. While there is a need to protect the information people get before they vote, the FEC doesn't get to engage in censorship.
