OSLO (Reuters) - Natural swings in the Arctic climate have caused up to half the precipitous losses of sea ice around the North Pole in recent decades, with the rest driven by man-made global warming, scientists said on Monday.
The study indicates that an ice-free Arctic Ocean, often feared to be just years away, in one of the starkest signs of man-made global warming, could be delayed if nature swings back to a cooler mode.
Natural variations in the Arctic climate "may be responsible for about 30–50 percent of the overall decline in September sea ice since 1979," the U.S.-based team of scientists wrote in the journal Nature Climate Change.
Sea ice has shrunk steadily and hit a record low in September 2012 -- late summer in the Arctic -- in satellite records dating back to 1979.

You're off the handle, man. Since moderators are also normal readers it's easy to get modded into oblivion, deserved or not. I don't always have the "mainstream opinion" but can usually get away with it by using a little tact. But people here are really into fact and not just opinions and feelings.
Unfortunately, we rely on others to generate that fact which is oftentimes biased based on who is funding the fact finding. If you are of the opinion that the facts are misleading then you'll just have to grow thick skin and accept that you'll be losing fact based arguments for a long time. People here are actually accepting that some people reject facts if done in a more civil way. Pretty much every religious or political discussion right there.

Kinda makes sense - except, look above. Azumi at +3 insightful for HER post? If that's not flamebait, then I've never seen flamebait. But, partisan bullshit. The twinkies mod non-twinkies down, and fellow twinkies up. Which was the exact purpose of my original post. All the rest of us need to moderate on partisan lines, just like the hypocrites do.

So maybe you are the paragon of virtuous modding, but I guarantee there is a whole lot of conservative down modding. You're complaining that the OP posted a statement which is almost directly contradicted by the article itself and is dowodded because politics? You're half right... OP posted more of a political opinion and not a fact (see above) so expect such downmodding to happen.

Thank you. Literally every comment I've seen from that user you're referencing has been nothing except trolling and flamebait yet they are regularly upmodded. I assumed they were modding their own comments as trolling and e-peen tend to go together as sure as anything. But in any case it makes the site look very reddit-esque in all the wrong ways.
