Open source projects are by their nature intended to be welcoming, pulling in contributions from many different volunteers. But in reality, open source and the tech industry in general often lack diversity. Speaking at the Open Source Leadership Summit in February, Mozilla's Chief Innovation Officer Katharina Borchert told the crowd that working to bring ethnic, gender, and skill diversity to open source projects isn't just the right thing to do because of moral grounds, it's the right thing to do to make projects more successful.

Me, I beg to differ. Pretty sure success has to do with the diversity of thought/ideas rather than genetic diversity.

Kind of scary that I cannot be 100% sure whether this insanity is sincere or parody. Damn you, Poe's Law.

Kinda ditto here. If one searches, one can find an all-Caucasion team to to the job, or an all-Negro team, or an all-Asian team. And, if you search, you can find a diverse team. If a person is being an ass about it, he can specify one female Asian, one male black, one transgendered Caucasian, and so on. An extreme ass might even specify hair and eye colors of the team.

Diversity, in and of itself means diddly squat. You want qualified people for the job, and you don't bend the qualifications to meet stupid-assed quotas. Diversity of the mind is a really great thing to look for when recruiting for some specific project. Find an expert who was schooled in China, another who went to college in England, another from Russia, and one or more colleges in the US. THAT is intellectual diversity. And, THAT is valuable in research, engineering, or whatever.

The color of the employee's skin, or his gender, has nothing to do with a successful project. Absolutely nothing. Incompetent idiots come in all sizes, colors, genders, religions, and political persuasions. Assembling a "diverse" team of incompetent idiots isn't going to make any project successful.

But what you can not find, is an all Runaway team. Does not work well with others. Ogles young females, thinks he is friends with African-American women. The only reason we include him is for diversity. Helps us with the unwitting-trump-supporter, maybe a vet, category of old white guys. Yes, Runaway, you only have a job due to affirmative action!

Hehe, I started off reading thinking "men counter reactionary" but then I realized that could very well be true!! "We're not agist like the rest of silicon valley, look at this old white conservative dude we've got on the team!!"

It's parody because he used Sheryl Sandberg, thereby proving he considers her bossy.
