Open source projects are by their nature intended to be welcoming, pulling in contributions from many different volunteers. But in reality, open source and the tech industry in general often lack diversity. Speaking at the Open Source Leadership Summit in February, Mozilla's Chief Innovation Officer Katharina Borchert told the crowd that working to bring ethnic, gender, and skill diversity to open source projects isn't just the right thing to do because of moral grounds, it's the right thing to do to make projects more successful.

Me, I beg to differ. Pretty sure success has to do with the diversity of thought/ideas rather than genetic diversity.

If MLK were still alive, I'm quite sure he'd point out how your cherry-picking only quotes of his you like while ignoring plenty of other statements that run contrary to your attempted narrative.

Oh I know the "Dream" speech was carefully crafted rhetoric to serve a purpose. There is a lot of evidence he was a Communist, but I have seen writings where he seems to reject the Communists, demonstrating an understanding of the dead end it is and it's utter hostility to Christianity. So who really knows, lets judge what he did and said and not get into endless debates about beliefs and motives. There is also a good argument he was merely playing "Good negro" to the Panthers "Bad violent negros". But it isn't arguable that the "Dream" speech is considered problematic now, as ably demonstrated by Prog posters in the replies to my post; but progs in leadership positions find it difficult to memory hole it without eliminating King entirely from history and they have invested too much in his legend for that.

It also isn't really debatable that King and Co. had some pretty legitimate grievances with the Southern Democrats of their day.

The question that really ignites a message forum though is "Did the Civil Rights Movement, as it actually happened, MLK, Panthers, riots, affirmative action, welfare state, lawless SCOTUS rulings and all, advance or reverse the lot of blacks in America viewed with the full benefit of hindsight?" I'd say it was a net negative, and challenge anyone to look at what has happened, look at the trendlines in the 1960 before it all went crazy and dispute the assertion.

Wool boy jmo has gone off the rez. It really does a person good to see the veil drop and the crazy person you always knew lurked is out in the open. Jmo has had plenty of crazy posts, but misappropriating MLK has really "been a thing."

I looked at all the "trendlines" and you are totally wrong.

Strange how it's only white people espousing this view.
