Open source projects are by their nature intended to be welcoming, pulling in contributions from many different volunteers. But in reality, open source and the tech industry in general often lack diversity. Speaking at the Open Source Leadership Summit in February, Mozilla's Chief Innovation Officer Katharina Borchert told the crowd that working to bring ethnic, gender, and skill diversity to open source projects isn't just the right thing to do because of moral grounds, it's the right thing to do to make projects more successful.

Me, I beg to differ. Pretty sure success has to do with the diversity of thought/ideas rather than genetic diversity.

The assertion from genetics is that two people from different racial groups are likely to have as much genetic material in common as two from different racial groups. Within a smaller population, there are typically markers that are more common in a particular group than in others, because people tend to breed with others that live nearby, but a black and a white person (for example) from families that have lived in one area for a few hundred years are likely to have more genetically in common than they will with people of the same colour from a few thousand miles away.

Then skip genetics. Bone structure alone is often enough to tell the race of a person.
