Reuters reports that Twitter has sued to stop the U.S. government's effort to learn the identity of a Twitter user who has criticized that government's policies.

"The rights of free speech afforded Twitter's users and Twitter itself under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution include a right to disseminate such anonymous or pseudonymous political speech," Twitter said in the lawsuit.

This highlights a real need to post stories quicker.

The case already been dropped, [techdirt.com] because the government has withdrawn the summons.

Someone must have pointed out that a Twitter user who criticizes the president or government in pretty shameful ways, may end up running it.

Oh, it's alright, the chilling effect has already been accomplished.

l see that CBP and ICE seem to have officially become Mr Trump's "SS".

I'm not sure most people realize how bad this is.

On one hand, I feel like that cheapens the atrocities committed in Nazi Germany.

On the other hand, I might just be a little numb to this since I got told about it by a friend who works for the government who got a warning from on high about doing this kind of stuff months ago.

We'll see how long it takes them to start rounding up Mexicans.

They'll be first since there's really no problem with rounding up and deporting illegals.

Next will be Moslems, and then will be homosexuals and socialists.

Well, I don't know if that'll actually happen, but it will be interesting to see how far it goes, especially since I'm in one of the groups I named.
