Michael Larabel over at Phoronix brings us news of a stealth Social Justice coup over at FreeDesktop.org:

X.Org, GStreamer, Wayland, LibreOffice, Mesa, VA-API, Harfbuzz, and SPICE are among the many projects hosted by FreeDesktop.org that now appear to be on a contributor covenant / code of conduct.

The Contributor Covenant for those unfamiliar with it is trying to promote a code of conduct for open-source projects that is trying to promote diversity and equality of contributors to libre software projects. From the covenant's website, "Part of this problem [of "free, libre, and open source projects suffer from a startling lack of diversity, with dramatically low representation by women, people of color, and other marginalized populations"] lies with the very structure of some projects: the use of insensitive language, thoughtless use of pronouns, assumptions of gender, and even sexualized or culturally insensitive names."

The covenant states in part that those contributing should use welcoming and inclusive language, be respectful to others, showing empathy towards others, avoid insulting comments, and avoid inappropriate conduct. For the most part, it's basically common sense.

Now it seems this Contributor Covenant is being forced onto all FreeDesktop.org-hosted projects.

I've got one question for all you whiny little pussies who think freedom of speech is more important than freedom of association.
What are you going to do about it?

Put your money where you mouth is and fork those projects.
After all, if being a jerk is such an important factor in software development it stands to reason that any pro-jerk fork would easily attract the best talent, right?
Except that's never happened in the history of social injustice whiners.

And really, that's no surprise. None of you whiners actually have talent. At best you are like the mighty bummer - delusionally self-praising of their own mediocrity.
Most of you don't even pretend to that level of competence, you've got literally nothing to contribute beyond your knee-jerk admiration of jerks.

Look at the current poster-boy for jerks - Uber. They had one half-decent idea - try to circumvent taxi regulations - and yet they lost 3 billion dollars in 2016 alone. [techcrunch.com] Being a jerk seems to work pretty good for tricking delusional jerks into throwing money at you. But when it comes to producing something meaningful and lasting, that shit is useless.

Freedom of speech and freedom of association are equally important. For my part; I simply refuse to associate with those who would restrict freedom of speech. You seem angry.

      > Freedom of speech and freedom of association are equally important.

      What an lame anondyne statement.
You can't have it both ways.
This group wants to limit their association to those who don't run their mouths like assholes.
So you pick - is it more important to be 'free' to be an asshole, or more important to be free from people who behave like assholes?

No, they're embracing those who run their mouths like assholes. The exclusionist SJW's who epitomise everything they claim to oppose.

So you pick - is it more important to be 'free' to be an asshole, or more important to be free from people who behave like assholes?

Definitely more important to be free of SJW's. Thanks, and have a nice day!

          Yes!

Projection. Why would somebody be a bigot for refusing to abide by arbitrary rules? We have freedom of speech and of association -- get used to it!

Oh, that sort of smug arbitrary declaration of victory doesn't work when the other side does it?
              Funny how that works.

You are free to go associate with someone else.
This thread is about sacking up and forking the code.
But all you can do is whine, no action just crying, because you don't have the skill to do anything else in life.
