Demand for the visas far exceeds the 85,000 cap, meaning that the government has to ration them to firms by lottery. Indian outsourcing firms like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which provides low-cost back-office services, are now the biggest employers of H-1B workers. Analysing data compiled by Théo Négri of jobsintech.io, The Economist found that between 2012 and 2015 the three biggest Indian outsourcing firms—TCS, Wipro and Infosys—submitted over 150,000 visa applications for positions that paid a median salary of $69,500. In contrast, America's five biggest tech firms—Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft—submitted just 31,000 applications, and proposed to pay their workers a median salary of $117,000.

The Economist reassures us that, "Given that the unemployment rate for college graduates sits at 2.5%, it is fair to say that most native workers displaced by H-1Bs land on their feet."

    If the H1-B got the job direct then as soon as they lost that job they went back to their home country. If they get it though a contracting agency they have something like 30 days to get another job.

    The problem is the agency. Let them come over and take the job. If they lose that job give them 30 days. Um? Really? How many of you could find a job in 30 days after unexpectedly losing your job?

    Give them 90 days to find a job. Oh, BTW. Ensure employers pay the local median wage plus 20% to ensure they have skills that are in demand.

    I've worked with a lot of H1-B's, they are just like us. Some are great, some are good, some are wankstains. Deport the wankstains, give those that are great full citizenship, and figure out what to do with the vast majority that are simply good.

    Rais the minimum H1B wage to 250K.

    We would get a better quality foreign worker, and companies wouldn't be so quick to lay off american skilled workers.

      The only thing you would accomplish is to increase the incentive for scam artists to extract that sweet quarter mil from the American Empire. If you like throwing money away why not drop some more exxxtra fatass bombs on designated brown people in designated warzones.
