An Australian man has been handcuffed and locked up in a US detention centre after apparently breaching his visa conditions by just over one hour.

Sydney man Baxter Reid, 26, was in the US on a five-year visa and had travelled to Canada as part of a requirement for him to exit and re-enter America every six months to keep his visa valid.

But his American girlfriend Heather Kansco said Reid was arrested by US Border Patrol officers on 23 April after delays receiving clearance to cross into Canada meant he breached his visa conditions by just over an hour.

According to Kansco's account, the couple were given "the runaround" for more than four hours at the US-Canada border. By the time Canadian authorities referred them back to US Border Patrol, Reid had "technically violated his visa requirements".

"The US Border Patrol ended up taking Baxter away, because after waiting for hours with the Canadians, he ... was illegally in the US for a SINGLE HOUR," wrote Kansco.

Australian Broadcast Corp

A Canberra man has been detained in the United States for reportedly overstaying his visa by less than two hours.

... Mr Reid's brother, Alexander, said Canadian officials did not want to let Baxter through because his visa was close to expiring. "Because they had kept him, his visa had expired by 90 minutes," he said.

"He wants to go back home, but he wants to go of his own accord," Alexander said. "He doesn't want to get deported because he still wants to go back to the US because that's where his girlfriend lives."

"He wants to get a court date so he can say to the judge 'I was leaving [of] my own accord, I don't want to stay here illegally'," he said.

"But unfortunately a court date can be anywhere from a few weeks to six months.

"He could be locked up in detention for months only because his visa expired by 90 minutes."

Offering (forced) accommodation for free (on tax money) for at least a few weeks will prove a good investment in advertising the US tourism industry, right?

...and someone pledged to put the white collar criminals who crashed the economy in prison.

Dr. Stein had all of these as planks in her platform.
There were others on the ballot with "Socialist" in the names of their parties and/or in their philosophies who had similar platforms.

The majority of voters didn't even know about these folks because they are lazy and stick to the 2-party horse race narrative of Lamestream Media that avoids any actual issues which concern working class USAians.

Stein got 1% [of the total votes in November 2016.]

[...] Stein’s total votes in Michigan and Wisconsin were greater than the margin Clinton lost each state, so had the Stein backers in those states voted as a bloc for Clinton instead, she would have carried each state (although Clinton still would have lost the Electoral College).

Agreed. According to the page I linked, around 1% of the total votes in the November election were cast for Ms. Stein--and had all of Ms. Stein's supporters instead cast votes for Ms. Clinton, it likely wouldn't have made a difference in the final outcome.

Way, way, the fuck ahead of you. It's all great hyperbole, but the dangers are extremely serious. We are risk for them constantly.

            That risk?

Nobody knows what the fuck they are doing anymore, and Millenials have the life skills of entitled pampered Elites in King Louis XIV's France. Without the systems working, smart phones online, Google Maps directing, food shipments being brought in by immigrants, processed food in plastic packaging delivered in convenient areas, readily available drugs and entertainment via app clicks on a mass surveillance device.... the urban populace devolves into a terrifying Lord of The Flies within days or weeks at most.

Only older people have any survival skills, or younger people that are able to read the writing on the wall. Their parents taught them how to can food, light farming skills, how to fucking make fire in the middle of nowhere. Things like that.

What do you think will happen when the systems break down, either intentionally, or from natural disasters? That's why it is inherently dangerous to be around such large groups of ignorant people wholly dependent upon working technology and systems to survive that they don't understand at all. We could lose the cell phone super easy. Just have the tech breakdown and half the engineers responsible for creating and maintaining killed trying to survive in dystopia. Cell phone is now just a piece of magic the the "ancients" knew how to create.

The middle of nowhere with a reliable water supply and arable land for small farming is about the only hope of survival. I'm moving towards that as fast as possible before the American workers are crushed, left holding the bill, and devolve into a hate filled pile of violent squirming shit trying to get a last few gasps of air.

What Internet? Did you understand what I said about the fucking cell phone?

Who is left in dystopia, while people are running around hoarding food and water, to manage the BGP routing tables that are keeping a city online and connected to a disparate collection of networks with peering and transit agreements?

The Internet is a bit more fragile than people think that it is. Does your city have enough local repositories to re-install your software in the event of an emergency? What do you need to do exactly to keep these systems properly functioning? Are the people responsible for that strong warriors more than capable of defending themselves and gathering resources unto their budding empires? Hardly. Most sysadmins would be the first to leave the cities, or the first to die.

Cardio. Do you know cardio mother fucker? :)

LOL. Internet is a huge concern of mine when the world falls down. ROFL.

You're cute with your banal attempts to troll me, but yes, I have hunted. Not so interested in creating pamphlets for America when I'm not there and it is on fire..... but I liked your prose at least :)

There are no skunks where I'm going, but there are plenty of chances for local meat actually. A cow literally falls down the mountain every so often, and then the surrounding villages have steak. Works pretty nice and laid back.

Of course, on the farm there are chickens, pigs, ducks, and rabbits. No coonskin cap, but rabbit fur bedding is quite nice. I'm going for a Bedrock feel, so I'll try to dye the rabbit furs or something.

As for the ink? I'm smart enough to bring the equipment that I need.... and my own copy of the software repositories I would need to build whatever the fuck I want. You'd be surprised what you are capable of making with 3D makers these days and some software.

No need to write diatribes or anything once the world falls. I'll use whatever power is left to look at pictures from around the world, or print out pages from Wikipedia onto stone for the generation of humans that try to rise from the ashes :D

Plenty of skunks where I live. The other day I was walking home from the store and I spooked one. I saw a skunk walking down the sidewalk on the other side of the street, the skunk saw me, and it got spooked and it sprayed a full load on the sidewalk before it ran away. Even though I was all the way across the street at the time and the skunk had aimed squarely at the sidewalk on its own side, my clothes still smelled of skunk when I got home. Turns out I had been just close enough to the spray puddle to absorb some of the evaporated vapor.

You can blame the kid in the back seat for not having the foresight to put a spare in the trunk all you want. The only option is to walk to the gas station, even if it's ten or twenty miles away. If you're blaming him for not raising the Millennials correctly, you could be wrong. If he's an Xer like me (I'm close to at the younger edge of the X generation), which is probably fairly normal for this site, then he's not to blame for the Millennials, because he's too young to have had one himself. The Millennials go up to age ~35; the kids in college now are the generation following that. Someone who's in his 40s isn't old enough to have a kid that's 30 or so, or really even in their late 20s. So if you want to blame someone for raising the Millennials poorly, you need to blame the Boomers, namely people over 55. (Now if the OP is a Boomer, then he's culpable in this way.)

Also, it's quite possible he never had any kids, in which case I say he's off the hook for that too. You can't blame someone who never had kids for raising kids poorly.

Assuming the OP isn't a Boomer and/or has no kids, the only thing I think you could rightfully blame him for is poor voting. But that seems pretty weak to me; our political leaders only have so much to do with how kids are raised, and societal attitudes. It's really an emergent property of the populace at large.

Personally, I prefer to lay all the blame for society's ills on the Boomers and also their parents (who enabled them).

Seriously, you think the military can't set up a cell tower, or distribute water and food to a disaster area? What do you think the Quartermaster Corps is doing all day? The military knows how to distribute food and set up communication links.
