When Skytorrents first showed up, advertising an ad-free and privacy-focused service, we were skeptical. They wouldn't be the first to start this way but change their tune when visitors started coming in.

[...] "We will NEVER place any ads. The site will remain ad-free or it will shut down. When our funds dry up, we will go for donations. We can also handover to someone with similar intent, interests, and the goal of a private and ad-free world," Skytorrents' operator informed us.

[...] Users will not be able to create an account, for example, as that created a weak spot. The same is true for Javascript, which isn't used at all.

"For example, using a CDN breaches user privacy. As far as complete privacy is concerned, either there is complete privacy or zero privacy. For maintaining complete privacy, we do not use cookies, java scripts or user logins. We also do not have any moderators," Skytorrents informed us.

Damn, even we use cookies for log-ins.

Overrated? This is pretty much why I stopped pirating. There have been a bunch of studies showing that piracy benefits distributors by providing them with free word-of-mouth advertising. I don't want to be providing advertising for someone who won't distribute their works under terms that I find acceptable (i.e. no DRM, fair use rights respected, for an affordable price). Don't want to make your film easily available to me? Fine, I'll watch something else - it's not like there's a shortage of things I'll enjoy watching (even if no more TV shows or movies were ever made, I'd probably find enough to last me the rest of my life).

Soooo... You won't illegally watch for free the product of someone's labor, depriving them of a reward for the entertainment value you get, because getting that free entertainment may indirectly benefit the provider of the entertainment, which is unacceptable because they didn't provide it to you under terms that you'd agree with to hand them money?

    I need an aspirin.
