WQAD-TV in SeattleMoline, IL alerts us that

The annual Eta Aquarid meteor shower is usually active between April 19 and May 28. This year, it will peak around May 5 or May 6.

The best time to view the shower will be during the early morning of May 6, just before dawn [...]

The article goes on to explain that the meteors originate from Halley's Comet, which will next approach Earth in 2061. Mark your calendars!

Well spotted. I'm not sure how I made that mistake (thanks to the editor for fixing it). Not only is the station in Illinois, but the by-line of the story credits Tribune Media, which is based in Chicago but has stations around the United States. I'd assume that the instructions are applicable to people at a similar longitude to Chicago.

To repeat what I said in another comment, Sky & Telescope [skyandtelescope.com] seems to be saying that close to 2:00 UTC on 6 May, or when the Moon sets, might be good times to look.
