Citigroup listed seven companies as potential takeover targets for Apple Inc (AAPL.O), including Netflix (NFLX.O), Walt Disney (DIS.N) and Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), as a way to put its cash hoard of more than $250 billion to work.

With over 90 percent of its cash sitting overseas, a one-time 10 percent repatriation tax would give Apple $220 billion for acquisitions or buybacks, Citigroup analyst Jim Suva said in a note to clients.

U.S. President Donald Trump's tax blueprint, which was unveiled last month, proposes allowing multinationals to bring in overseas profits at a tax rate of 10 percent versus 35 percent now.

"Since one of the new administration's top priorities is to allow US companies to repatriate overseas cash at a lower tax rate, Apple may have a more acute need to put this cash to use,"

If Apple acquired Tesla its cash reserves would supercharge the latter's potential to disrupt markets.

I think Musk wants to keep the control over Tesla. It's likely not just a for profit corporation but also serves as a R&D + supplier for batteries etc for his Mars mission. Something Apple will not be allowed to derail. So investment yes, takeover no.

Sorry guys, no food or phone home. But hey the battery is thin and can't be replaced until next spare part shipment comes from Earth Apple HQ :-)

    1. Please wait while itunes downloads the latest software for your "iZoom" rocket. (Please note, interstellar download speeds can be slow, and solar activity may interfere with this update)
    2. Your Apple iCar model P199 will no longer be offering insane mode, and now requires you to enter your AppleID and iTunes passwords before it will start.
    2. Your Apple iCar will only have enough battery life to get you home, but the entire exterior is now glass. Please don't park outdoors, or in a car park. Replacement glass bumpers are only $900 each from dodgy shops, or $3000 from Apple.

    /s, maybe?

Our iZoom rocket only has 95% of the fuel to reach orbit. It's much thinner and sleek that way, looks great. Astronauts are expected to have re-fueling stations in the stratosphere. The flight control panel don't support thrust vector adjustments. Such things are complicated and are kept from users. No crashed user has complained about this.

If the fingerprint logon device becomes disconnected during launch shaking it requires you to call the service center during launch and wait for our service center to tell you that the panel must be sent in. The official control tower remedy is to unscrew the panel and connect to the JTAG port so you can root it and save the life of the crew. Apple has no responsibility for this, for anything, or anything at all well except to bill you for services you thought you had. We call that imaginary.. service.

He (Musk) has directly stated he wants/thinks Tesla will be bigger than Apple.

You may not like Musk, but he's pursuing his dreams.

Steve Jobs, alas, is dead. So the dreams are off the accountants and jobsworths, and therefore lack of vision clarity.

Has Apple put out something really innovative since 2011 ..?

Still recall the presentation iPod.. Phone.. etc. It's really about re-packing existing technology in a chiq and easy to use package. But it makes it easier for a lot of users to make use of said technology.

"Easy to use" is out of date as well. Android phones are generally far easier to use now.
