Citigroup listed seven companies as potential takeover targets for Apple Inc (AAPL.O), including Netflix (NFLX.O), Walt Disney (DIS.N) and Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), as a way to put its cash hoard of more than $250 billion to work.

With over 90 percent of its cash sitting overseas, a one-time 10 percent repatriation tax would give Apple $220 billion for acquisitions or buybacks, Citigroup analyst Jim Suva said in a note to clients.

U.S. President Donald Trump's tax blueprint, which was unveiled last month, proposes allowing multinationals to bring in overseas profits at a tax rate of 10 percent versus 35 percent now.

"Since one of the new administration's top priorities is to allow US companies to repatriate overseas cash at a lower tax rate, Apple may have a more acute need to put this cash to use,"

If Apple acquired Tesla its cash reserves would supercharge the latter's potential to disrupt markets.

Fucking ditto. I'm not enabling those rounded-corner walled garden Nazis.

It matters where your money ends up. I can just go back to pirating everything.

That's true of the software and media files. Not yet true of hardware.

As far as hardware goes, though, how much do you really need? Do you really need that coffee cup warmer and espresso machine? Is the bread machine cranking out loaves, or gathering dust in the cabinet? Maybe you need your car, but maybe if you sat down and thought about it you don't really (bike + public transportation to get around, delivery for goods, etc.). In other words, it does matter how you spend your money; in fact, it might be the only thing that matters anymore. So don't buy things you don't really need, give away and/or recycle what you don't need, and always try to buy used at garage sales or somesuch when it's something you do need and don't yet have. Alternatively, you can try making what you need yourself--it might not have rounded corners but you might find you take far more pride in it and enjoy using it than something store-bought.
