On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed a long-awaited executive order on cybersecurity.

Mainly, the order requires a number of cybersecurity reviews across the various agencies of the federal government, in order to determine what must be done to strengthen federal computer systems, as well as United States' critical infrastructure.

Here are some industry reactions to the executive order Help Net Security received.

Well, we can all be thankful that you aren't in charge of anything of note.

He is right though, we all make the argument that DRM is the attempt to make water not wet, well making Windows secure is even more of the same idiocy. Ban Windows from any position where "If this machine gets 0wned do pants get shat?" answers TRUE a firing offense and 90% of the problem gets solved with no recurring monthly charges to a 'security app' or 'firewall' that never seems to actually stop enough attacks to make it possible to do something as unwise as continue running Windows.

Would we still need firewalls and defense in depth if all mission and life critical systems were on OpenBSD or even more hardened? Yes, but it would be possible to actually make it secure enough we wouldn't be worrying about a Warhol Worm destroying civilization. And that is exactly what this crap with Windows is ratcheting up to.

When the Trump executive order comes that says "If your services are disrupted and need a cleanup because you got p0wn3d.. you're FIRED!". The Microsoft problem will be significantly reduced ;-)
