from the Bond.-James-Bond. dept.

Not much to say, other than Moore was the first Bond I came to know, and as such, is the first face I think of when I think of the Bond Character.

In remembrance, what was your favourite role that Moore played over the years, Bond or otherwise?

and not so very good an actor, as to be able to conceal the goodness in his actual nature.

That's one of those "inside baseball" issues where insiders might not like it, but as an outsider I actually kinda liked it, people change over time, 007 was just slightly mellow in the 70s, its not all that unrealistic that personalities ebb and flow over decades. Its not like they swapped actors every single movie, so its sort of gradual, feels kinda real...

Like in DnD terms his character wiggled around 1/2 or less of a step of alignment, and that seems very human.

An example of where character substitution just simply isn't working well, take a look at Star Trek the "real" Uhura and Spock and the transition to the action flick reboots is pretty F'ed up, like they didn't even try, they're just like "give us a generic sassy young black chick and a generic nerd". Like, had those actors even seen an episode of Star Trek before they played the parts? They're both just awful. With Kirk, they at least tried to match personalities.

The new Kirk lacks the sense of dedication and responsibility.

Uhura? So underused in ToS - and so full of possibilities to bring this amazing woman more to the fore in a new story. Wasted.

Agreed, but in the human condition for millennia whats new about that?

Something few people talk about is the TOS cast wasn't "60s diverse" solely by skin color but also personality and lifestyle. Everyone knows Spock and McCoy and their personalities, but it extends to the rest of the crew. Kirk was a hard core achiever who was successful. Sulu, same personality but MUCH less successful, although he eventually made captain much later on. Uhura was the smart underused person. Star Fleet was explicitly not entirely hard core military but was more than a mere job, I donno like the Peace Corps sorta. So if Uhura is sorta coasting thru life in her job, well, so be it? Scotty was another curiosity, why is Dad running the ship, but not really in charge when outside his Man Cave? He's not contemporary sitcom dad completely emasculated, but he's kinda 60s dad emasculated in that he's got his "den" or "man cave" and he putters around in his technical hobbies and is semi authoritative but not really wearing the pants in this family.

The Klingons are more boring in that they're all the same just some more successful/ruthless than others.

I think this was some of the appeal of DS9, to those who liked DS9 anyway, because there were even wilder variation and interaction of personalities and lifestyles, not to mention secret sneaky stuff.

Enterprise was very naval and naval officer and likewise pretty boring personalities other than one or two tokens. Likewise Voyager, everyone cut from the same cloth except Tom Parris. Those are arguably the two weakest series by many fans and I think it boils down to the crew were too boring.

The character as written for the Abrams Trek movies were not. Abrams even said he wasn't a fan of the series, being more a Wars guy (not that he didn't shit all over THAT too.)

In both cases it was corporate's decision.

Furthermore in regard to Spock, go watch Heroes and tell me the actor's character in that doesn't immediately make you think 'This guy is the perfect replacement for Nimoy for a Trek reboot!'

Anyway Heroes, Trek, and Wars are all dead, as are various shows they inspired. Although Heroes was the pathway to the plague of superhero/comic themed shows now choking mainstream TV at least 5-6 days a week.
