Not much to say, other than Moore was the first Bond I came to know, and as such, is the first face I think of when I think of the Bond Character.

In remembrance, what was your favourite role that Moore played over the years, Bond or otherwise?

Growing up I have to say that I merely tolerated Roger Moore's Bond. I enjoyed the movies because they were Bond movies, of course, and back then Bond movies were lots of fun. Especially Moonraker because it was half Bond movie and half Star Trek movie and I was quite small when my older sister agreed to rent it while our parents were away. That was a memorable night. But I always thought of Moore's Bond in general as kind of obnoxiously smarmy and stiff. Never really thought of him as particularly good looking either. So I was a bit shocked to recently watch a documentary on him where it turns out that in his time he was a renowned "pretty boy" action actor beloved by a great many people, not just in his native England but all over the world. He landed legendary roles like "The Saint" and headed a show I'd never heard of before called "The Persuaders" which was apparently a very big deal in the 70s in the US, the UK and all over Europe. Every actress he ever worked with seemed to love him. He's universally depicted as one of the nicest guys you might have ever met. And then there was the UNICEF work. What a jerk, using the power of his celebrity status to help feed starving children and stuff! I mean, really, where did he get off?

The documentary gave me a different perspective on Moore's stereotypical "stiff-upper-lip but still cheeky aristocratic British gentleman" interpretation of Bond. He was certainly able to express a remarkable amount by a simple glance, head tilt, subtle squint, or lift of an eyebrow. I highly recommend anyone with a spare hour find the video on YouTube. It's called "Roger Moore: A Matter of Class". Or just click the link:

Oddly enough I only saw that video a few weeks ago, and found it quite randomly while researching the history of digital watches, specifically Casio watches. The Bond actors had a prominent relationship with the earliest digital watches as well as helping to popularize "dive watches" like the iconic Rolex Submariner in common culture. Moore in particular wore a Pulsar LED digital watch, one of the very first digital watches, in 1972's Live & Let Die.

You can learn a lot from searching for a new wristwatch. I wound up with a Casio A178W and sometimes think how Roger Moore might have been wearing something very similar decades ago, right around the time I was born. It pairs remarkably nicely with a Milanese loop band meant for a Huawei smart watch.

Ooof I look like him with a shorter haircut. Its actually kinda funny, when I was young I looked like him when he was young and now that I'm not so young (but not 89) I still look like he did at my current age. I'm even getting the same wrinkles in the same spots which might be more information that anyone wants to know. My mom was a fan of brit actors in general and Bond movies were one of the few action flicks she liked so ... um ... well this is getting creepy. There's no way my mom could have ever met Roger Moore... I think.
