For the first time in 10 years, the Prime Minister said the terror threat had been raised to the highest possible level, from
severe to critical, meaning an attack
is "expected imminently".

[...] Mrs May also announced that troops would replace police officers at set-piece events including sports venues and concerts.

It will be the first time since 2003 – when the Government reacted to a plot to bring down an airliner – that troops are deployed on the streets.

[...] It is the first time Britain has been on maximum terrorist alert since 2007, when a blazing car loaded with gas canisters was driven into Glasgow Airport.

Why would she suspend them if she's got even more chance of winning now with an even bigger margin. It just resets the clock and keeps he in longer.

Well, this all is pretty much what happened in my original timeline. Elections in many democracies were suspended in 2019 and 2020 following martial law as all hell broke loose. Of course I say that ironically, because that hell is a kind of hell that humanity has lived through many times before. Then a few years later when summer never came, when the major cities were all rubble, we learned of a different kind of hell.

Even with Trump in charge of the USA instead of Clinton, events really haven't been that different. Sure, there's no overt TPP/TTIP/TISA this time around, but the larger factors are still present. Expect another major event or two to occur at the height of summer this year. Very likely something terrible will happen on US soil in the next few months, and there will be more deaths in Europe. When fall comes, the first signs of the coming shitstorm will be finally clear. That will be your last chance to get out of major cities. Get out of major cities now, and stay away from them beginning next year. Start preparing for the year from hell. It is coming.

In a segment of Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, Carl Sagan pontificates about the nature of history and what a time traveler could expect to be able to change about the past. Even if it were technically possible to use some instrument such as "the big doughnut" to jump back to Germany in 1920, there would be no point in killing Hitler. Somebody else would become Führer. Millions of Jews and other undesirables would still be killed. Europe would still be ravaged a second time during the 20th century. Germany's best and brightest would still flee what was their coming shitstorm. The US would still become the first nation with The Bomb, and the US would still use it to effectively conclude at least one theater in that war.

All of my data so far indicate that Carl Sagan was essentially correct. Even had I access to a perfect record of this time period, and were I able to sift through the unimaginable number of primary sources that were incinerated or scrambled by EMPs on N-day, I'm not sure I would know how to prevent the coming shitstorm. Perhaps only god does, and it seems we cannot hear the answer he must be shouting down at us to avoid it all. Instead, we'll need to take a walk to the gas station when our car runs out of fuel on the side of the road, as it were, since that's the only way we know to learn the lesson that is meant for us.

Thats one of those stupid American things to blame Hitler.

Theres a couple dudes I can think of who abused the F out of the Treaty of Versailles leading directly to WWII and six bazillion dead Jews and all that

Let me think of some names. The two people I can think of most responsible for WWII are both French, Georges Clemenceau, who was a coward and F'ed with Germany's military and territory until they kinda had to rebel in reaction, and Ferdinand Foch was a rabid dog who needed to be put down, he was crazier than Clemenceau. Take a time machine, put a bullet in two frenchmen Clemenceau and Foch, put the Brits in charge of the Versailles negotiations because they were not rabid lunatics, and we could have quite easily avoided all the unpleasantness of the 40s.

Of course the Russians might have invaded Europe in the 50s and probably won, but, maybe a Europe full of Russians in 2017 would be safer and more civilized than one full of Muslim bombers and rapists like we have today in 2017. I mean think about it, whats a safer city to visit, Moscow or Manchester? A better example that Moscow might be some city they invaded in the Crimea a couple months/years ago. I know where I'd feel safer (and less politically repressed!)

Ever hear the term "Soviet satellite"? [google.com]
How about "Prague Spring"? (1956) [google.com]

There was a guy who was the US president in the 1970s.
He hadn't gotten the gig by being elected to that office and he wanted another term, achieved on his own.
The dude was kinda a goofus (known for e.g. tripping over things; Chevy Chase mocked him mercilessly) and he made the same mistake you did [google.com]--but his was on national TV.
