The big SteamOS beta update that Valve shipped last month has now officially been released into the stable updates branch.

This is a very large update. It includes a new 4.11 Linux kernel, and updated drivers for AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA graphics hardware. This update also switches SteamOS from the proprietary AMDGPU-PRO driver to the open source mesa driver. Debian 8.8 and security updates are also included.

You can tell they're complete baka [google.com] because they even gave the strongest Windows, Windows ⑨, a pass and went straight on to 10!

Followed by an obstinate refusal to take it to 11.

Windows 8.1, that is to say Windows NT 6.3, *is* effectively Windows 9. Technically Windows 10 is NT 6.4, but they popped the version string up to 10.x.y because fuck you.

"Effectively" doesn't cut it. GP was talking about the actual Windows ⑨: Strongest Edition [google.com]. Alas, Microsoft thought that Windows ⑨ would be too strong [touhouwiki.net].

It was cut because there's a massive and easily-exploitable vulnerability; just stand *right in front* of the kernel when the CPU utilization is above 50% and all messages will be dropped.
