Yes she made some bad acquisitions but then who hasn't?

Her farewell post listed her accomplishments, such as more than doubling Yahoo's stock price.

The article I read made a good case for her bad reputation being due to her being a woman. A man who was an aggressive executive would be admired for his strength.

Yahoo! NEVER made ONE "good" acquisition! They destroyed financial or intrinsic value of everything they ever touched!

CoolIris, Anyone? Geocities, Music Match? Broadcast.com? Hotjobs? FoxyTunes?

Meedio was a great project. They totally removed from distribution and screwed to pooch-city. There were a dozen like this.

And I meant to say, this ability to destroy product acquisition predates Mayer. Filo and Yang made it almost an artform.

In her defense, Mayer owes her position at Yahoo to being one of the first few Google employees, and she remained near the top of the food chain for a reason. It's not like she didn't do real work, including some coding, in order to get to where she is today.

She was a reasonable choice for CEO at Yahoo. It's quite possible her female-ness helped her get the job, but she was as qualified as any of the guys they might have considered.

such as more than doubling Yahoo's stock price.

I think that you will find that the stock price increase was entirely (and more) due to the Alibaba investment, which was made before she came on board.

Her farewell post listed her accomplishments, such as more than doubling Yahoo's stock price.

Given that this is appears to be solely down to Jerry Yang's decision, back in 2005, to buy a 40% stake in Alibaba, this has nothing to do with Mayer.

Essentially Mayer took a large (~12,000 employee) tech company full of smart people, with a site taking in more traffic than Wikipedia, YouTube or Amazon, and drove it into the ground.

    This does not deserve credit.

A man who was an aggressive executive would be admired for his strength.

Only if he didn't screw up to the extent Mayer did.

Normally I see sexism accusations with contempt because the idea of throwing magic words at people to shut them down annoys the shit out of me. But honestly, empirical evidence b what it b and we complained about executives being gigantic waving dicks on slashdot constantly. Especially if they worked for the D[ice].

Still certainly not going to call her a good person for that though. I don't even call myself that and I don't have 23 million to wash the tears away with. Shiet.
