The High Court has granted Liberty permission to challenge part of the UK's "extreme mass surveillance regime", with a judicial review of the Investigatory Powers Act.

The law forces internet companies to keep logs of emails, phone calls, texts and web browsing histories and to hand them over to the state to be stored or examined. The civil liberties campaign group wants to challenge this mass collection, arguing that the measure breaches British people's rights.

In a separate case in December, the European Court of Justice ruled the same powers in the previous law governing UK state surveillance were unlawful.

The government argues that it needs access to the data to help with criminal investigations and that the legislation is required because so much communication is done online. But Liberty said the legislation had passed through Parliament in part thanks to "shambolic political opposition" and that the government failed to provide evidence that surveillance of everybody in the UK was lawful or necessary.

Martha Spurrier, director of Liberty, said: "It's become clearer than ever in recent months that this law is not fit for purpose. The government doesn't need to spy on the entire population to fight terrorism. All that does is undermine the very rights, freedoms and democracy terrorists seek to destroy."

She added: "Our government's obsession with storing vast amounts of sensitive information about every single one of us looks dangerously irresponsible. If they truly want to keep us safe and protect our cybersecurity, they urgently need to face up to reality and focus on closely monitoring those who pose a serious threat."

to keep people who will not assimilate but instead replace them and turn their country into Britbongstan. No amount of surveillance will stop two cultures forced to live in one area from violently clashing with each other until only one remains.

At the rate things are going, the United Kingdom will only exist in history books written by the winners, demonized as being something evil and backward before it became multicultural. No one could have foreseen that it would become an Islamic country. Pure cohencidence.

There is no such thing as no-go zones, only colonies. The United Kingdom is being colonized by people who do not share the modern culture of women being allowed outside without a male guardian or keeping degenerates from drowning in bogs or from falling off tall buildings.

I do appreciate how much concern you folks have shown in the areas of women's rights and LGBT rights. You've made some real progress in those areas. I hope we can progress to a society where any woman can use the pill or get an abortion, and I hope we progress to a society where nobody bats an eye at gay marriage or gender transition. I hope to see you folks progressively see the light on more progressive concerns!

Eh I'd rather see mentally ill people get treatment rather than play along with their delusions. Transsexuals are usually dead by 40. Homosexuals live about 20 years less than heterosexuals.

Birth control pills aren't really good for women. It denies them their true purpose which is to have and raise children during their most fertile years. Unlimited sex with random cocks renders a woman unable to pair bond with their husband.

You care about letting people do whatever they feel like doing now. I care about their future. Childless women at 40 aren't happy. Transsexuals are usually in the grave at 40. Homosexuals are usually on some HIV medication at tax payer expense by then and wear adult diapers from having a non-functioning rectum.

The muslims will use the women as sex slaves while tossing the transsexuals and homosexuals off buildings. So yes, degenerates are better off with bigoted whites in control.

The state surveillance is about population control just like Snowden said. Terrorists and the rest is just a convenient excuse. And if there are too few terrorists, they make them. Seems more and more like a war against the citizens to impose a future feudal society.

It's about balance of power. The UK gov isn't nearly as powerful these days as the US gov, but the people are proportionally weaker in large part due to having been disarmed. Their gov has nothing to fear from the people, so no reason to appease them.

It would be a grave mistake to assume there is nothing to fear for the government. If the push comes to shove then there's no telling what comes out of the woodwork.

I'm sure there are some me nice pieces stashed away from the war, but if you can't practice with it you won't be very effective with it.

People might be extremely resourceful under harsh conditions. And it will not be obvious at the start what and who.
