A source with knowledge of the planned downsizing told TechCrunch that [Microsoft] would lay off "thousands" of staff across the world. The restructuring is set to include an organizational merger that involves its enterprise customer unit and one or more of its SME-focused divisions. The changes are set to be announced this coming week, we understand.

Microsoft declined to comment.

[...] Bloomberg said the redundancies would be "some of the most significant in the sales force in years."

[...] Last year, Microsoft announced that it would cut 2,850 jobs — including at least 900 from its sales group, according to The Seattle Times — having two months earlier said it would let go of 1,850 staff related to its smartphone business. In July 2015, it made 7,800 job cuts and wrote down $7.6 billion of its Nokia acquisition.

I must admit to being a little amused by this. So often we hear of massive downsizing and out-sourcing in engineering, support, logistics, and manufacturing at many companies, while the smart-ass sales and marketing jerks polish their BMW's.

Nice the see some of the crapmeisters at MS, IBM, and others getting a little taste of "right-sizing".

    Fuck 'em.

Micro$off already fired all the techies in the previous round. They only got lawyers and UI "designers" (aka random web designers/hipsters that LARP working at abble) left.

...and there go the salesmen out the door.
(Traditionally, a large part of M$'s business model.)

Now, with fewer M$ salesmen to bribe company purchasing agents with steak dinners, will desktop FOSS see a jump in acceptance in corporations?
(These days, it's increasingly difficult to find a business which isn't using Linux on its servers.
...and, of course, a Linux kernel on its handhelds.)

    But, it's all cloud stuff.

Personalized ads and scripts that send emails and repeated ads eliminate the need for even a human to hound you.

The only people kept, I am sure, are those proven to be attractive looking to the buyers in their market, male or female.

If the tracking and endless stream of creepy ads don't get you, they send in the cheer leaders.
