Ryzen chip sales have boosted AMD's "Computing and Graphics" revenue significantly. AMD's CEO Lisa Su noted that game and content developers have optimized for the Ryzen architecture:

Ryzen was the star of AMD's second-quarter earnings call Tuesday: The processors helped boost earnings 19 percent compared to a year ago. Company executives also had two messages for gamers: one, that game developers had largely completed their code optimizations for Ryzen, and two, that miners who hoarded graphics cards wouldn't be around forever.

[...] Ryzen sales had a profound impact on second-quarter sales. AMD's Computing and Graphics segment revenue rose a whopping 59 percent year over year to $659 million. AMD's other segment, covering the enterprise and chips for game consoles, fell 5 percent to $563 million. Overall, AMD lost $16 million (or took in $19 million in profits, without charges) and reported $1.22 billion in revenue.

Ryzen 3 CPUs will begin shipping on July 27th, and AMD will launch new Vega GPUs at SIGGRAPH (July 30 - August 3).

AMD release. Also at AnandTech, Wccftech, and Barron's.

I'm buying a lottery ticket this weekend. I'm due for a few numbers. Don't need to get all six numbers, just enough for shiny new Ryzen goodness :-)

AMD's PSP makes the Intel ME look less invasive. AND they've indicated they have no plans to offer alternative firmware, documentation, or an unsigned version for users concerned about their security.

Obviously none of those issues are a concern to anyone HERE....

Joke's on them : I do all my bio and thermonuclear weapons designs offline. But with that many core, maybe I'll open a few tabs of scat gay porn just to misdirect anyone trying to track me.

Note that most people voluntarily give up all their data to FB, Google, Amazon and their bank and cellphone company already. Why bother to use a backdoor?

Handing over your data to Google or Amazon is voluntary. But when buying a modern x86 computer, you have no choice but to accept the ME or PSP. The only alternatives are low power Arm boards, old x86 hardware, or possibly some embedded CPU that lacks that technology that will most likely cost significantly more.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I am becoming more and more turned off to the computing and tech industry what with all the greedy anti consumer fuckery, spying, and brain dead developers at the helm.

I'm seriously considering selling FPGA-based hardware firewalls to paranoid people. Basic Hardware filtering is pretty easy, but making the rules management somewhat user-friendly is a pain.

A small Arm micro with a simple lcd UI or even ethernet port with small web server could bang values into registers via an spi interface or memory mapped interface. You could even push that into the FPGA using a soft core.

The Talos OpenPower Workstation [soylentnews.org] is supposed to be actually launchinng in August— basically the last hope for a open, free, workstation-class computer system in the foreseeable future.

AC, google a little next time: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/5x5xl3/amd_to_consider_corebootlibreboot_support_contact/ [reddit.com]

In AMD’s AMA here, they say they will seriously consider releasing their Platform Security Processor (PSP) source code. This is their equivalent of the Intel Management Engine and would make AMD processors compatible with coreboot/libreboot.
