Known for its bouts of heavy smog, the city of Los Angeles on Thursday announced plans to have a fleet of fully electric, zero-emissions buses by 2030.

Authorities in the US metropolis said the project, which involves the purchase of 2,200 vehicles, would cost some $1 billion over the next ten years.

"Today's vote represents an enormous investment in the future of a healthy and prosperous Los Angeles," said Hilda Solis, a Metro Board Member.

The current fleet operates on compressed natural gas (CNG), seen as the most environmentally-friendly option when the buses were purchased in the 1990s.

A CNG coalition had previously protested the transition, arguing that, while the goals were worthy, electric buses were not yet a reliable technology.

Not on Trump's watch. The reason why LA is so broke is because it shelters a million illegal immigrant leeches.

Actually L.A. needs nuking from orbit. It has no redeeming qualities, no decent architecture, just millions of shit people who need snuffing out. I pray to Jesus Christ that LA is the target of the next big terror attack, and a nasty one too -- like an outbreak of some horrible disease which kills its victims slowly and bloodily out every orifice.

Sorry, man, but I reserved first strike on Chicago, IL about 25 years ago. If L'il Kim has enough to vaporize Chicago and then Washington DC and Barstow, CA after that then LA can go.

Besides, isn't LA already a horrible disease that kills its victims slowly and bloodily out every orifice?

Sounds like you have something against that burg like John Fogerty does against Lodi. [songmeanings.com]
      Care to share?

vaporize Chicago and then Washington DC

I've got nothing in particular against Chi-town but DC definitely has it coming.
If they have a weapon that will take out just The Mall (White House and Capitol), that would suit me.

...and L.A. is so spread out that one strike might not be enough.
...and with a mountain range between the city proper and The Valley (also containing parts of the incorporated city), it would take a well-positioned airburst.

I've been to LA twice. Lovely weather, and a couple of weekends ago I stayed in Hermosa Beach and read a book on the beach before a dip in the ocean. What's so bad about it? OK, it's not as good as NY, but no city is, but it knocks the socks off Washington DC, Toronto and Delhi, my other 3 foreign destinations this month.

Hermosa Beach is more O.C. than L.A. It's nice and quiet but boring as fuck, the whole town (except for literally a quarter-block of bars) shuts down at 8 p.m. on Saturday nights, and there are no minorities there.

If you really want to see the true face of L.A., then visit Santa Monica, Venice, Pacoima, Wilshire, Bell. Go to the bus station sometime, if you can make it inside without getting attacked. The city and its inhabitants are truly evil deranged shit.

Maybe E-f ran into some wannabe actors who are always "on".

      Hermosa Beach

As E-f notes, you found the boring White people in South Bay.
The most exciting thing ever there was The Beach Boys.
Oh, and the time that the cops shot the shit out of the pickup truck with those 2 gals in it when they thought they had that rogue cop/cop killer.

He mentions Bell, CA which is a bedroom community that is mostly just hard-working people--if you don't count their very crooked city gov't. [google.com]
I can't imagine how he ever ended up there--or in Pacoima.

My guess is that he encountered people who aren't lily white and aren't Reactionary and his tiny little brain imploded.
Knowing that most of them could kick the living shit out of him if he ever opened his big stupid mouth with his usual bigoted drivel is likely to have really soured him on multi-cultural L.A.
