Virtual reality games usually promise shoot 'em up adventures but in Hong Kong Friday lovelorn tech fans donned headsets to go on imaginary dates.

The city's annual Ani-Com and Games fair sees thousands queue to try out the latest consoles or buy up comic book collectibles, often dressed up as their favourite characters.

But for those who had spent too long alone in their rooms, a new VR smartphone app offered some romantic solace.

Users can choose between four female models and spend a vacation with them in either Japan or Thailand, joining them on trips to cafes, hot springs and karaoke.

They slot their phones into a plastic headset and are then immersed on a date, during which they can choose options for activities.

Promoters of the Hong Kong-made app, which is known by its Cantonese name "leoi yau" or "VR travel friend", said it was to help what they called "Otakus" to practise their dating skills.

The name is a Japanese term for obsessive manga or anime fans.

"We want to allow more people to try out what it's like to date a girl because there are a lot of Otakus who don't know how to communicate with girls," Margaret Ming, the app's communication officer, told AFP.

"This game can teach them how to get to know girls," Ming said, adding that there is some flirting involved in the story arcs with the models.

Helpful, or sad?

Golddiggers and whores? Are these alleged men so egotistical and self-centered that they only relate to women in terms of money? Hmm. No wonder they are so easily taken advantage of, and can't say they don't deserve it.

This is what women say when men complain about women being ridiculous. We're sexist and horrible people because we know how great we are and still have women whining about how there are no great guys out there; then proceeding to describe somebody just like us.

Honestly, it sounds like you haven't met very many women if you haven't lost faith in them completely. It's astonishing to me how talented they are to avoid every great guy in a room and proceed directly to the biggest asshole available. Then when that doesn't work out, to whine about how terrible men are, never mind that she had other options that she ignored in order to win that asshole.

If women want good guys, the need to stop being such shallow cunts and actually date good guys. No more of this bullshit about how they're all entitled to the best guys out there, when most of them would be lucky to have a mediocre guy as they're not willing to put any effort at all into deserving a great guy.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you greatly overestimate yourself.

Honestly, I think you should count your lucky stars. If the situation is at all like you describe--big if, there--then she's a jerk and you managed to dodge that bullet. Stop whining and move on with your life.

Look, the supermodel wannabe you had your eye on is just not that into you. Suck it up and deal.

Trouble is that 90% of younger women pursue 10% of men - who tend to be the biggest arseholes because young women think that shows strength. However, not all of that 90% are jerks, some are just ignorant, and are competing with other girls for a "trophy" BF. A trophy BF is simply one that all the other girls want. As women get older, say towards 30, they start to get wiser.
