U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said on Thursday he has sent recommendations from his review of more than two dozen national monuments to President Donald Trump, indicating that some could be scaled back to allow for more hunting and fishing and economic development.

The recommendations follow a 120-day study of 27 national monuments across the country, created by presidents since 1996, that Trump ordered in April as part of his broader effort to increase development on federal lands.

The review has cheered energy, mining, ranching and timber advocates but has drawn widespread criticism and threats of lawsuits from conservation groups and the outdoor recreation industry.

There were fears that Zinke would recommend the outright elimination of some of the monuments on the list, but on Thursday, speaking to the Associated Press in Billings, Montana, he said he will not recommend eliminating any.

Zinke said in a statement that the recommendations would "provide a much needed change for the local communities who border and rely on these lands for hunting and fishing, economic development, traditional uses, and recreation." He did not specify which monuments he plans to recommend be scaled back.

The Associated Press reported that Zinke said he would recommend changing the boundaries for a "handful" of sites.

If you're taking millions of acres off the table for one site, you fail at knowing the definition of a monument.

That's a place where Evil Libruls are preventing good NorthWest Republican voters from hunting their own meat (with automatic rifles) and logging their own wood (with Heavy Duty trucks).
Being a Park or a Monument doesn't matter! It's a government overreach on my right to profit from the existence of a resource.

(yes I know that most locals like to charge handsomely for services to tourists, and appreciate the park and the nature, but the DC/Fox spins ignores the realities of the locals)

My sons are great hunters. Not Barron. He'll learn it if he wants to, he's a very smart boy. I'm talking about Eric and Don. They hunt elephant and leopard in Africa. Buffalo and cheetah. Kudu and crocodile. Civet cat and water buck. Big game. In Zimbabwe. Robert Mugabe is a great guy, big supporter of mine. I'd love to meet him! My sons love to hunt. They are members of the NRA, very proudly. I am a big believer in the Second Amendment. Not hunting. But my sons are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf. My other son, Don, is a hunter. Very ethical, they give the meat to the villagers. Amazing amounts of meat, the likes of which you've never seen in your entire life. They're great marksman, great shots, they love it. I like golf. I don't do that. I think it should be an option. I'm very proud of my sons. And proud that we've taken the protections off the grizzly bear. It's not endangered. It's a problem. Schools in Wyoming, they have to keep guns. In case grizzly bears come along. Betsy tells me it's a huge problem there. You know if you shoot a grizzly bear, if you kill a grizzly bear, they want to put you in jail for five years. No more. It's up to the states, but they can do hunting now. If they want hunting, they can do safaris. In Wyoming and Montana. The option is on the table. #MAGA 🇺🇸

Elephants are easy to hunt. It's not like it's easy to miss an elephant.
Bring me back a row of ant scalps and I'll be impressed.
      Probably.
