According to a leaked law proposal, which has been obtained by the Swedish Internet provider Bahnhof, the Swedish government is doubling down on the court-banned and hated data retention surveillance. As a Western first, they're also planning to introduce VPN surveillance, taking a page out of Russia's and China's oppression playbooks, and are mandating that the Internet be built not to optimize speed and throughput, but to optimize governmental surveillance.
takyon: A Privacy International report has found that 21 EU member states (including Sweden) have data retention legislation that may not comply with Court of Justice of the European Union judgments. Also at TechCrunch.

Wiretapping is pretty old-fashioned stuff. President Bush did a lot, a lot of it. George W. Bush. To find out who brought down the World Trade Center. As if he didn't know! A very big surveillance of our citizens. Then along comes Obama, and you saw what happened with surveillance. And everybody saw what happened with surveillance. He put a wiretapp on me. What about President Obama? The Saudis gave him golf clubs. A terrific set of golf clubs. And a horse sculpture. Silver horses with diamonds, tsavorites, yellow sapphires, rubies and obsidian. Very nice, very valuable! A very nice gift to our worst President. Who, if #CrookedHillary had won, would be the second worst. And Michelle, they were very, very generous to her. Gave her jewelry with diamonds and emeralds. A whole set of jewelry. A necklace, earrings, a ring and a bracelet. Everything but the nose ring! But the Obamas didn't keep those. Let me tell you, they didn't keep those gifts, because of the Emoluments Clause. Which is complicated like you wouldn't believe. I get to keep the small gifts. The big ones I'm turning over to my State Department. Which has a list of them, the list you saw. So I won't have problems with the goddamned Emoluments Clause. And I can buy the big ones back, if I want to. Or Congress can tell my State Department to give them to me. And then they are mine. Who knew being President could be so complicated! I'll tell you, I don't blame the Obamas. And I don't say they colluded. If they did, I'd lock them up! They took the gifts. And so did I. What can you do? You take the gifts. You don't want to piss people off. Some people, you don't want to piss off. Especially the Saudis. You don't piss them off, you thank them, you take the gift. And you turn it over to State. But I'll tell you, it's a terrific painting. Which I'd like to have. And put it in the White House, where the picture of #CrookedHillary used to be! You ask who brought down the World Trade Center. I'll tell you, Osama bin Laden said it was his guys. Came right out and said it. But you look at who the FBI took to court, they went after one guy that way. ONE GUY they took to court and charged! A guy called Zacarias Moussaoui. Who is French. And who bin Laden says wasn't one of the guys. I'll tell you, it stinks. Wow, does it stink! 🇺🇸
