It's 2017. Why are there still Nazis?

It's a question many observers are asking after hundreds of white supremacists, many displaying swastikas and Confederate battle flags and shouting racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-communist slogans, took to the streets of Charlottesville, Va., this weekend, provoking violence that claimed the life of one counter-protester and resulted in multiple injuries.

The continued existence of people who hold openly white supremacist ideologies more than seven decades after the fall of the Third Reich can be explained, in part, through a social theory developed in the early 1990s. Social dominance theory seeks to explain how hierarchy-enhancing ideologies do not just drive social inequality, but are also a result of it. It suggests that a single personality trait, called social dominance orientation (SDO), strongly predicts a person's political and social views, from foreign policy and criminal justice to civil rights and the environment. What's more, it offers insight into how ideologies such as racism, sexism, and xenophobia tend to arise from the unequal distribution of a society's resources.

"Social dominance theory provides a yardstick for measuring social and political ideologies," says Felicia Pratto, who developed the theory with fellow psychologist Jim Sidanius. "SDO is one way – not the only one – to try to figure out what those ideologies are 'about.'"

You too can take the Social Dominance Orientation quiz to determine your nazi quotient.

How about because people are branding white people as Nazi's when they do something the black supremacists don't like? That's a pretty good way to create Nazi's.

AA was necessary in its time, but today, it benefits the society's upper crust who happens to be black, rather than the disadvantaged ones. And it breeds racial animosity - why doesn't kids from appalachian white trash background deserve a little help just like the inner-city black kids, rather than kids from well-off minority families?

Once or twice a year I get something in the mail asking for donations to some Appalachian college; I can't find anything on the intertubes about it right now but if my (possibly faulty) memory serves, this college will accept any qualified Appalachian kid, regardless of their ability to pay. I wish I could find the info on it. I'm sure you would be eager to make a donation!

That's PART of the problem, but there is more to it than just that.

I will note that membership in the KKK had fallen off, very badly, in the '90's. They were having recruiting drives all over the south, and mostly being laughed out of small towns. They were desparate for members. Today? https://nypost.com/2016/06/30/the-ku-klux-klan-is-slowly-rising-again/ [nypost.com]

Progressives can blame themselves, at least in part. So can groups like Antifa, and Black Lives Matter. And, more generally, Democrats. If white supremacy really is coming back, it's largely in reaction to the steady drumbeat we hear, "All hetero white males are EVIL!!"

By the same argument, Nazis can blame themselves for the existence of Democrats. Who in turn must re-blame themselves for the existence of Nazis. Etc.

Take your pick of citations from that page. Hell, I'll find you another list to go with it

https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&source=hp&q=hetero+white+males+evil&oq=hetero+white+males+evil [google.com] A lot of it looks the same, but there are differences - take your pick.

NOTE: The same search on Yandex offers a ton of gay porn links.

Try this list of hate links against white men - https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&q=whitey+must+die&oq=whitey+must+die [google.com]

Use your imagination. Do your own searches. I hear and read that shit every day, and mainstream media gives all that shit a platform. It's heard from gays, frome feminists, from blacks, from Latinos, from damned near anyone who isn't a hetero white male. It pervades the news, no matter which of the US mainstreams you watch. There are mayors of major cities who are elected for no better reason, than they promise to put hetero white males in their place - prominent among them is that queer bitch mayor of Houston, Anus Parker.

If you don't see and hear any anti-white male hatred, you've got your head deep in the sand, or your ass, or something.

While I can't subscribe to any of the white supremacy messages out there, I most certainly CAN understand that a lot of white men might find the messages attractive. You tell a kid that he's a worthless shit, 24/7, and someone else comes along and tells him that he is valuable? Guess what - that kid can be groomed for prostitution, for terrorism, or for any other purpose to which the group may wish to put him.

Surprise, surprise, surprise - alienating straight white guys actually ALIENATES THEM!!

When you're hearing it plastered all over mainstream news then you should consider that such voices are being given a platform specifically to destabilize society. The percentage of people spewing white hetero hate is actually much smaller than you're led to believe.

Ohkay - you're almost certainly correct. BUT - don't you see the problem with that? Specifically, our nation's unofficial propaganda machine is working to alienate a group of people - and government doesn't step in to stop it? You're saying that a very vocal, very small minority has the microphone, and the technicians who control the mic are cooperating with that minority. There is something badly wrong with that picture.

It sounds a lot like the old 'divide and conquer' stategem. Every one's attention is being diverted from something, onto these divisive issues.
