Hugh Hefner, Playboy Magazine Founder and Star of Girls Next Door, Dies at 91

"Hugh M. Hefner, the American icon who in 1953 introduced the world to Playboy magazine and built the company into one of the most recognizable American global brands in history, peacefully passed away today [September 27] from natural causes at his home, The Playboy Mansion, surrounded by loved ones," a rep for the Playboy Enterprises founder said in a statement to PEOPLE.

[...] "My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom. He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history. He will be greatly missed by many, including his wife Crystal, my sister Christie and my brothers David and Marston, and all of us at Playboy Enterprises," said Cooper Hefner, his son and Chief Creative Officer of Playboy Enterprises.

By putting up his furniture as collateral for a loan and borrowing the rest from family and friends, Mr. Hefner published the very first issue of Playboy in December of 1953, which featured a nude Marilyn Monroe.

The same year, Hefner launched media and lifestyle company Playboy Enterprises, Inc., on which he served as a board member until the time of his death.

[...] The magazine became known for its articles as well as the beautiful women that graced its pages, with Hefner asking some of the world's greatest and most progress literary figures to write for him including, Hunter S. Thompson, John Updike, Ian Fleming, Joseph Heller, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Margaret Atwood, Jack Kerouac and Kurt Vonnegut.

Yeahhhh, so right there is the initial comment and how Moore ties into it. It is VERY common for threads to go off on tangents, you just having trouble with people discussing a woman instead of the Great Man? ;)

There's easy and wrong, or complex and correct. If you're married and this is how your wife treats you, the problem is the relationship, not her double X chromosome.

She describes stuff that would indicate he's a rich and demanding or even abusive john but nothing that indicates he's a pimp. She merely claims he sold girls (with nothing to back that up). And if that's all he did he's still not a pimp. For him to be a pimp he would have to let others fuck his women for a fee which seems inconsistent with her story.

And as far as I know those women could walk out of that mansion the only real thing holding them was their love for his money.

Wow, I guess reactionary garbage is mainstream now. Extremism sells! Publish more hate filled crap!!

Reminds me of a casual talk I attended where an older lady was talking about feminism and such, at first there were some reasonable points but then she went on to say that society should be ruled by a triumvirate of women. Men are obviously incapable of being level headed and compassionate therefore they could not be allowed any power! /s You could see pretty much every man and woman start tuning out the crazy.

It amazes me that some people can let themselves get so taken over by hate like that writer. Yes there are systemic problems, yes those problems suck and are unfair, but society has been steadily improving. You rarely can force a society to make sweeping cultural changes, and even then it takes time for individuals to evolve no matter how much legislation you pass.

Well, I do think that many women would do a better job than the entities that are running things now. But that doesn't include those that go around seeking power.

Women are, in general, more able to deal with kids having tantrums, so they seem a reasonable candidate for running things. But in general doesn't mean in all cases, and some women, especially those who seek power, seem to be worse than even the men who seek power.
