Facebook, Twitter and other social media companies have been given an ultimatum by the European Union: rid your platforms of hate speech or face legal consequences.
European regulators have been pushing social media firms to remove racist and violent posts from their platforms in a timely manner for years. Their patience is running out.
Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft and Google have all pledged to do more. In May 2016, they promised to review a majority of hate speech flagged by users within 24 hours and to remove any illegal content.
But the European Commission, EU's top regulator, said Thursday they are still failing to act fast enough. It said it would pass laws allowing the EU to impose punishments on companies that fail to act.
"The situation is not sustainable: in more than 28% of cases, it takes more than one week for online platforms to take down illegal content," said Mariya Gabriel, the EU's top official in charge of the digital economy and society.
The Commission said it will consider implementing new laws to tackle the problem if the online platforms fail to "take swift action over the coming months."

Hate is not maladaptive. You descend from uncountably many generations of haters. Hate is in your DNA.
Those you failed to hate were driven to extinction. They failed to pass on their DNA.

You fail to distinguish between different kinds of hatred; some forms are justified and others are not. I don't think hating someone because of the color of their skin is justifiable. Also, you can take action without succumbing to thought-inhibiting emotions.
I don't support EU hate speech laws, but come on.

Any indicator of shared DNA matters.
Genetically, your life is worth that of two siblings or eight cousins. The less DNA shared, the less somebody is worth.
Any indicator will do. If somebody has the same eye color as you, they are more similar than otherwise. If they also have or lack milk tolerance, or if they are of similar height, or they have a similar hairline, or they have similar earlobe shape... anything at all.

I'm only talking about morality here. I am not interested in the conflation of nature and evolution with morality, which are separate things. Humans have evolved with tendencies to do things that most would agree are bad, but that doesn't mean that people are wrong for thinking those particular actions are bad.

The two ACs may be immoral racist assholes, but they are not wrong with regards to evolution. Favouring those that are genetically similar to you is something that would be selected for.
To really understand evolution you need to put aside all arguments except pure utilitarianism at the gene level. The sole question is "Will this genetic trait result in more copies of the relevent gene in the next generation?". That's it. No morals, no strategy, no "benefit to the species", no goals.
If hating people who look different results in higher reproductive success at the gene level then it will be selected for.

You don't know me personally, or you'd know I've got a "live and let die" streak that borders on libertarian, at least on the personal level. That said, I believe censorship is stupid; the best way to deal with stinkin' thinking is to get it out in the open where it can be ridiculed as it deserves. You, by the way, are exhibit B :)
