The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, as the Norwegian Nobel Committee warned that the risk of a nuclear conflict is greater than for a long time.
ICAN describes itself as a coalition of grassroots non-government groups in more than 100 nations. It began in Australia and was officially launched in Vienna in 2007.

Given the current tensions due to North Korea, this prize seems somehow apt. What do you think?

A pointless prize given from one impotent organization to another. I guess that could be quite apt, or a sad reflection of reality. A world that is now somehow all about the feelings. They could have given it to someone that is actually doing something besides feeding some feelgood pipe dream. They have no power, nobody with nuclear weapons are ever going to get rid of them. So what is ICAN going to do? Pat themselves on the back some more? Write a strongly worded letter? Shame the nuclear powers into submission? Good luck with that.
I guess the apex of their achievement is getting that turd of a proposal past the UN talk club. Which is never going to amount to anything. But considering that it was just a couple of months ago I guess all the "right" people sent in their submissions for suitable "winners" in time.

Ya, the Nobel is a pretty transparent PR tool now. It probably has been for a while, but it is REALLY clear now.

Yes it was created by the inventor of TNT!
That said - it's called the Peace prize. Not the Effectiveness prize.

Of course, until then, its full steam ahead for the Titanic!

Ehm, you are claiming that Julius Wilbrand created the Nobel Price?

Thank you - yes dynamite is not TNT.
