The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, as the Norwegian Nobel Committee warned that the risk of a nuclear conflict is greater than for a long time.

ICAN describes itself as a coalition of grassroots non-government groups in more than 100 nations. It began in Australia and was officially launched in Vienna in 2007.

Given the current tensions due to North Korea, this prize seems somehow apt. What do you think?

If you left them alone then NK would not be a threat to anyone.

Let us recall who started the Korean War in 1950. It was North Korea. The same loons are still in power today. They're still pulling all sorts of crazy and brutal crap, like kidnapping and assassinating people, threatening to obliterate South Korea with the highest concentration of artillery in the world, and are still in a state of war with a good portion of the rest of the world. I think everyone else in the world would love to ignore North Korea and let them stew in their craziness. But guess who is keeping this ancient conflict alive?

NK is a necessary thorn in the side of the west for China and Russia.

    kidnapping and assassinating people

How does their count compare to the USA's count, flying drones halfway round the would and bombing the fuck out of weddings? Or don't brown people count?

    1950 was 67 years ago.
There may be old ex-soldiers around still, but anyone who was old and powerful enough to set policy and be resposible for the war is long dead by now.
    Let it go, man.

Then why hasn't the war officially ended? The answer is because one side, the North Koreans for those who aren't clear, is completely nuts. The same system that started that war is still here and still causing problems for everyone they can reach.
