In this study, 290 heterosexual Canadian students between the ages of 17 and 30 years old completed three questionnaires. One measured how competitive the participants are towards members of the same sex as their own, especially in terms of access to the attention of potential mates. The other questionnaires measured the tendency and likelihood of the participants to gossip about others, the perceived social value of gossip, and whether it is okay to talk about others behind their backs.

It was found that people who were competitive towards members of their own sex had a greater tendency to gossip. They were also more comfortable with the practice than others. Women had a greater tendency to gossip than men, and they also enjoyed it more, and saw more value in participating in such chit-chat. Men were more likely to gossip about the achievements of others. Such talk among women often targeted the physical appearance of another, and was used to share social information. Women also found gossip to have greater social value, which may allow them [to] gather more information about possible competitors in the game of finding a mate. It may also help to hone their ability to gossip in future.

There you have it--it's been scientifically proven.

I am a textbook INFJ. I haaaaaaate gossip, which did not help in middle school, because that means you become the subject of gossip. I've also been able to "read people" to a frightening degree since childhood, to the point of having lost at least half a dozen potential friends with a "How do you know that? You cannot possibly know that" and a few quick steps backwards. It's not a gift. It's a curse.

I think you're the only other INFJ I've met online. (Met one IRL also). I'd like to say, "We're the rarest!" but in evolutionary terms, what that really means is, "We're the least successful!"

You do not act or feel like an INFJ at all. I would have pegged you as one of the ST types, either ISTP or ISTJ. Male INFJs are very very rare and I'm told most of them are clergy or counselors...in any case, much more service-oriented than you appear to be.

        More service-oriented

You have no idea how many hours a week I spend volunteering (It's only 7 hours on average these days), how much money I donate to homeless shelters (only $1/day), or how much equipment and time I give to my community trade school (this is actually in the thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours over the past couple years).

Or, interestingly enough, that just a couple of days ago I helped a DACA recipient clean up a resume, took them to Kinkos and paid for professional copies to be made (their printer at home striped the lettering due to it being thrown out of a window during a fight sometime in the past, apparently), then drove them around to different places (blasting the AC, you do not want to look sweaty when you hand your resume to the manager) to apply for work to save them the time, stress, and money it would have taken for public transportation or Uber. (They actually got a job offer the next day and accepted.) Said DACA recipient is fully aware that I voted for Trump, too - they've seen my MAGA hat. I'm not sure what your source is for gender frequency, but anecdotally I would agree that male INFJs are hopelessly rare (unsuccessful) as I have only met two INFJs in person, both were female, and I have not ever noticed the kind of behavior one would expect from one in any men I've interacted with.

Voting Trump doesn't square with the rest of that. You are doing things that go against everything the administration you voted for stands for. So there is either some kind of mental disconnect here, or you've got a bad case of self-serving compartmentalizing going on.

        *Correction to my first comment

I actually remembered that I had met a second INFJ at a self-help group some years back.
