A 46-year-old man is facing federal charges accusing him of leaving a jar filled with explosives at a North Carolina airport as part of a war he pledged to fight on U.S. soil.

Michael Christopher Estes was arrested October 7 and charged with attempted malicious use of explosive materials and unlawful possession of explosive materials in an airport, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday.

The improvised explosive device, or IED, was found inside a jar at the Asheville Regional Airport about 7 a.m. on October 6, the FBI said in the complaint. Bomb technicians from the Asheville Police Department rendered the device safe. The baggage claim and lobby area of the airport were evacuated and shut down for about 2 hours. No one was injured.

Yes, that is worrisome, and something to always watch out for. At the same time, I can see no indication that this would be the case, here. You see, usually, the FBI would not even feel bad about such stunts, and so you would at least expect to see testimony of agents who had been in contact with the suspect, before, in a court case. They'd try to paint it like the suspect would have gone ballistic all by himself, but, generally, they wouldn't try to hide their involvement, at all. Also, while the police did not have too much trouble identifying and catching the guy, apparently they did not know who or where he was, immediately.

Some idiots are really determined all on their own.

Almost all of the "terrorists" the FBI catches are the result of stings/entrapment.

As you can imagine, it is much easier than intercepting a terrorist, mass shooter, or whatever.

This case might be real since it is hard to imagine the FBI would let him shut down air traffic for 2 hours even with a dud bomb. But it is on them to prove that they weren't in contact with the suspect.
