According to Bloomberg, Apple is taking a markedly different path with its streaming TV series than the likes of HBO Now or Showtime. The sources for the report—which include Hollywood producers and other industry insiders who have met with the company in recent months—paint a picture of a very conservative corporation making slow progress.

They say that Apple has expressed a preference for uplifting, family-friendly shows and that it has been disinterested in other kinds of pitches—even those from prestigious artists like Gravity's Alfonso Cuarón—because they don't fit that mold.

Carpool Karaoke, based on the segment from CBS' The Late Late Show with James Corden, was scheduled to premiere on Apple Music in April, but it didn't. The series came out in August instead. The Bloomberg report indicates that the show was delayed because the initial cuts had swearing and "references to vaginal hygiene."

Will Apple be the new Disney?

Hollywood's agenda is to make money by providing people with the content they want. It's hardly perfect as we wind up with a ton of sequels and reboots, but it's disingenuous to suggest that they have a motive other than selling more copies.

Pixar's stuff sells well in large part because it isn't the same as the entire industry. If the rest of Hollywood was also gunning for that same segment of the market, they wouldn't be doing anywhere near as well in the sales department.

What's more, we're drifting towards a more permissive society. My 8 year old nephew is getting to watch things that I would never have been allowed to watch at that age and probably not for a few more years. I certainly wouldn't have been allowed to have the assortment of toy guns that he has at that age.

You just assume that because you have your world view that's, quite frankly, rather prudish, that the rest of us are similarly crippled. Apple has a reputation for being pro-censorship to a ridiculous extent. It's not just that an app not have smut, but it can't be used to access smut in many cases that has gotten things banned from the store.

I thought it is going in the other direction, with todays kids having fewer toy guns than kids in the past.

You're the one making assumptions. I've no problems watching GoT, Daredevil, etc. I don't have problems with people watching all sorts of other stuff.

My assumption was: 'there's probably a huge market for "family friendly stuff" that's still entertaining.'

And that assumption doesn't seem really far out: http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=family&sort=boxoffice_gross_us,desc [imdb.com]

There seems to be high demand for stuff that's like "Finding Dory".

So if Apple can come up with "family friendly" TV shows that make them lots of $$$$$$$ that's great. Or maybe new successful genres - that'll be even better.

There could be untapped stuff out there. Many in the entertainment industry don't seem in touch with the market. For example, GoT is the darling of media and social media but NCIS has been beating GoT for years in actual viewership.
