from the anthropogenic-population-change dept.

We have a recent report by the US government that climate change is almost certainly caused by humans. However, we don't have the same rigor in gun death statistics; instead policy debate can rely only on FBI crime statistics which aren't directly comparable year-over-year due to changing measurement methodology (see "Caution to users").

This is because the NRA put pressure on the CDC through a Republican Congress to halt this research, under the logic that it promotes the cause of gun control.

But how likely is it that this is intentional, to use the US Second Amendment as an ongoing lightning rod for public attention (in a "bread and circuses" sense) while political business continues as usual on the back end (e.g. Paradise Papers)? Obama and a Democratic congress had the opportunity to restart this, which would presumably be just as "common sense" as the actual reforms they have been promoting on this issue, since whoever was actually supported by the facts would presumably have a motivation to set the program back in motion to improve support for their proposals.

Given recent events, and not so recent events, and lots of events going back decades, just in the gun-lover's paradise that is America: you just wait for the crazed ammosexual to consumate his love of firearms. The ultimate expression of one man's (why is it always a guy?) love for his "Piece", his "hardware", his "EDC", his "Lucy", is to allow that same beloved firearm to put an end to his pathetic life in one explosive explosion of nitrocelluose pushing a metal-hard jacketed round into the softest regions of his being, his brains. Soft, as in, not working too well. So, we doe not take away guns, we give these veterans of W's wars guns, because it is cheaper than giving them the health care they deserve, which would entail admitting the moral bankruptcy of American foreign policy since the Korean "Police Action".

So really, we don't need to shoot those who will not give them up, we just wait until they realize there is only one way out of the cluster fuck that George W. Bush has gotten us into, the same one the Clinton got us into in Somalia, the same one Reagan got us into in Lebanon. The same one Wilson got us into in Nicaragua, and Honduras, and Guatemala, and Cuba, and Bolivia, and Equador, and Baltimore.

So, ya, take away their guns, and if the resist, well, they have guns, what is the issue here? And if they want to commit "suicide by cop", how is that our problem? I say, let Waco Burn! Death to Ruby Ridge! Montana Freeman got off way to easy! Open fire on those inbred Mormon ranchers and have done with it! Yes, it is not that the ends justify the means, but that the means are just mother-fucking righteous!!! Whose loose meh gonna triparte hazard insidious Trump open push not the end, of this comment. Boo!
