Android Oreo was released on August 21. Adoption is at 0.5% (among devices that accessed the Play Store in early December):

Yesterday, Google released some fresh platform data explaining how many devices are running each version. Android 8.0, as you might expect, is struggling with a measly 0.5 percent share. Google's latest Pixel phones run the software, but otherwise it's hard to come by. There are some outliers, of course — the quietly impressive HTC U11, for instance — but most are still shipping with a variant of Android Nougat. Which is, well, hardly ideal for Google.

Android 7.0 and 7.1 have a combined share of 23.3 percent. Respectable, but still behind 6.0 Marshmallow (29.7 percent) and Android Lollipop (26.3 percent).

Here's an article about changes in Android 8.1.

Mine did the same thing day after thanksgiving. I have a 5x purchased in Oct 2015. I was able to get it to boot to desktop so I could do a factory reset by putting it into the freezer for 30 minutes.

Call Google, tell them your 5x is bootlooping. You need your proof of purchase. I bought my phone from Google so that base was covered. They will tell you that their warranty is only for one year but they will conference call you to LG. Make sure they stay on the line until the hand off to LG. LG handled my phone as a warranty repair because I was handed off to them by Google. Got the same phone back (same imei #) 7 days later. No cost other than to ship it to LG in Fort Worth, TX.

If you didn't buy it from Google you may be SOL.

Thanks, the two of us had three 5x-s purchased from Google for project Fi (one for parents who quit using it) - so, after many hours on help with project Fi, we managed to get exactly nowhere - but later did figure out how to transfer my wife's sim card to her parents phone, apparently there was a cooling off period of 24+ hours after factory resetting the parents phone before we could get in to switch it to my wife's account.

I suppose we should try to get her boot looper repaired under LG warranty, hers is/was a 16G while the other two are only 8, but the hassle factory is high...
