Over at Techdirt, Glyn Moody writes about Vietnam's Internet monitoring unit called "Force 47". The unit is a large team, around 10,000 in number, tasked with combating prohibited viewpoints, inconvenient facts, and anything against policy through monitoring, complaints, and astroturfing.

Facebook this year removed 159 accounts at Vietnam's behest, while YouTube took down 4,500 videos, or 90 percent of what the government requested, according to VietnamNet news, which cited Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan last week. The National Assembly is debating a cybersecurity bill that would require technology companies to store certain data on servers in the country.

Of course they are. Look, one thing I resolved to do in 2018 is stop giving people who say shit like this, when they're guilty of it themselves a million times more, any more credibility. I'm done with their bullshit projection. They don't register as adult humans with me any longer. There are over 100 million Americans I've mentally relegated to the playpen as of 1 January, and fuck 'em. When they can stop shitting the bed on the regular, they can come out. Until then, fuck 'em.

It is a bit sad, Trump supporters often fall into the "internet tough guy" category which means it is insanely hard for them to admit being wrong. Thus we see the desperate projections and outright lies to try and maintain their sense of superiority. I learned recently that many libertarian's / conservatives believe they are acting 100% rationally, but in reality they are using anecdotes and emotion to push non-rational agendas.

Everyone does this to varying degrees, but libertarians tend to have a much wider gap between their subconscious and their "logical" conscious mind. This is how they are able to maintain a belief in simplistic answers such as meritocracy and earned privileges, their subconscious is adding a few tons to the scale under the GUISE of logic and reason. When any flaws are highlighted it creates an anger response that again is subjugated and that emotional energy is re-framed again as logic and reason.

Again, before you libertarians get too upset this is a generalization that applies to all humans, I have simply noticed the stark contrast in degree between people of different political leanings. Now, why is the distribution so skewed? My guess is that in the US libertarians are at a sort of crossroads between liberals and conservatives. The simplicity of maximizing freedom is seductive, and there is a ton of political propaganda that is presumed to be correct. Example: receiving the fruit of one's own labors is the general belief behind capitalism, but in practice it becomes way more theft than taxes. Cue responses of bootstrapping your own company to compete, etc.
