The New York Times reports "Trump Ordered Mueller Fired, but Backed Off When White House Counsel Threatened to Quit":

President Trump ordered the firing last June of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation, according to four people told of the matter, but ultimately backed down after the White House counsel threatened to resign rather than carry out the directive.

Just looking at the two other comments so far, and it seems lots of apologists for Trump and his obstruction of justice. It's rather clear now that American "democracy" is down the shitter.

Well, it's not exactly coming from a reliable source. There was a time when the name New York Times meant something other than "we will print absolutely anything it takes to see Democrats in office" but that time has long passed.

I wouldn't. Partisan lies from one party are no better than partisan lies from the other. And whataboutism towards FNC isn't ever going to mean much to a libertarian.

Erm... I don't care about Trump either. He can get impeached, tied to a rocket, and shot into the sun for all I care. So long as there's beyond a reasonable doubt proof that he's guilty. I'd miss his masterful trolling but no moreso than I'd miss a TV show I watched a few times a year, when I happened to think about it, getting canceled.

Sorry, there's no error on my part. There's only reading comprehension failure on your part. If the NYT's story turns out by complete coincidence to be true, I won't shed a single tear. My like, dislike, or indifference of Trump plays no part in my refusal to believe anything the NYT says until it's confirmed by someone reliable though. That is entirely based upon their own flagrant disregard for the truth in pursuit of their agenda.

You really want to argue reading comprehension? Right after I linked to a story about Fox's Hannity reversing his accusations of fake news 30min later? You think reading Hannity's opinion is going to convince me of anything except to close that browser tab as quickly as possible? I can't even stand the sight of the guy. There is nothing worse than to be absolutely correct on an issue and to hear him argue it with his trademarked utter ineptitude. Not that he's correct that often but it does happen by accident once in a while.

The only reason we got a second term of Baby Bush was the NYT not reporting on the illegal wire tapping, until after the election "so as not to affect the election results."

The only reason we got a second term of Baby Bush was the NYT not reporting on the illegal wire tapping

I think making that the only reason is a bit of an exaggeration. Some other factors that might have been in play:
        - The media efforts to crush the campaign of Howard Dean by basically ignoring most of what his campaign had to say while using out-of-context audio of the "Dean Scream" to make Dean seem crazy and unhinged. Dean was looking like a stronger challenger than either John Kerry or John Edwards. But he represented the left wing of the Democratic Party at the time, so he had to be destroyed.

        - Lots of media outlets including the NYT dutifully reporting the claims of the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" (that invented the idea that John Kerry's medals were fraudulent, contradicted by many who were there) and treated them as anything other than malarkey.

Yes, and?... That seems to be entirely relative in this business. Besides, he is an actor.

My personal little conspiracy theory is that he's a double agent for the democrats and is there to scare people back into their corral instead looking for a better alternative. I mean, not that anybody would anyway, but everybody got scared off from even trying because of Perot and Nader. This is the story about Trump we should run with. If we're going to say wild shit, let's make it really good shit.
