A very small survey of people of different ages suggests that there are age and gender differences in the acceptance of riding in automated cars. In summary, 2,600 people in the US replied and of them 38% of the men and just 16% of women would be happy to ride in an automated vehicle. About a quarter of respondents said they would feel safe in a driverless car while around two thirds said they would not travel unless there was a driver. No mention was made about their opinions of sharing the road with these massive projectiles when driving themselves in traditional cars.

no mention is ever made of the most important part of this whole phenomenon: whether the shit is FOSS or not. the rest is much less important. of course these slaveware peddlers don't even want that subject brought up. closed source cars in charge of driving? no thanks.

You shouldn't have to ask that question - by now, the answer should be obvious: It will be 100% proprietary software. It may incorporate and violate GPLed software, but you won't receive any source. Your car will phone home to the manufacturer continuously during operation. If you direct it to drive outside of LTE range, it will stop in the middle of the road, and demand a network connection before starting again.

Well, avionics control software is closed-source so I'm going to guess this stuff will be as well. I agree with you though, it should all be open and audit-able by anyone who cares to.
