The UK high court has finally ruled on the extradition of Lauri Love, the Finnish-British student accused of cracking U.S. government websites. He will not be extradited to face trial in America. The court accepted both of the main arguments that there is no reason he cannot not be tried in England and that he might suffer serious damage to his health if he were extradited.

Maybe it depends on the state the prison is in. The people I met that had worked inside the big houses as guards or social workers were really tough people but described the job as witnessing hell on earth. Waking up with knot in the stomach every workday was a hardship that went away when jobs changed and prison was no longer involved. I spoke also with some people that did prison ministry and they described pretty much the same thing though they usually tried a bit to talk around it and emphasize the incremental benefits.
A very long time ago, I had to do a lot of cold-calling to a certain population inside a limited geographic area. Occasionally, someone other than the person I was trying to reach would reply very briefly that the person I was trying to reach had moved to $CITY. That $CITY was outside the area so I would move on. It happened enough that I eventually asked around a bit and found that almost always that phrase really meant the federal prison in $CITY.

There is a fact about prisons that is irrefutable (in my opinion based upon what I've learned from people I know who have been in them). They affect everyone who is in them, both the staff and the inmates, negatively. They are psychologically destructive places.
It's really quite a simple choice: Life, Death, or Los Angeles.
