According to OpenSignal's latest State of LTE report, the average 4G download speed in the United States was 16.31 Mbps in Q4 2017. That's little more than a third of the speed that mobile device users in Singapore enjoy and ranks the U.S. at a disappointing 62nd place in the global ranking.

    I'm in rural Canada and have a fixed mobile (LTE) connection. It'd be nice if it was faster, especially in the evenings when the network is really overloaded. Just tested, 2.5 Mbs down and 3.5Mbs up, for close to a hundred bucks a month. Still beats dialup though.

    That level of service can be had for about 10-15/month in Europe. How are the prices justified?

      Capitalism, once you have a monopoly, charge whatever you can get away with. I have exactly one choice for internet (and phone) and even closer to town, there's only basically two choices, the phone company or the cable company.
