As reported in news.com.au, South Africa's Parliament have voted to "expropriate" land from white farmers with no compensation.

From TFA:

The motion was brought by Julius Malema, leader of the radical Marxist opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters, and passed overwhelmingly by 241 votes to 83 against. The only parties who did not support the motion were the Democratic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, Cope and the African Christian Democratic Party
...
"The time for reconciliation is over. Now is the time for justice," Mr Malema was quoted by News24 as telling parliament. "We must ensure that we restore the dignity of our people without compensating the criminals who stole our land."
...
Mr Malema has been leading calls for land confiscation, forcing the ANC to follow suit out of fear of losing the support of poorer black voters. In 2016, he told supporters he was "not calling for the slaughter of white people‚ at least for now"

This policy has been tried in other African countries before, most recently Zimbabwe, with disastrous results. The farms appropriated usually fail rapidly, leading to food shortages and economic destruction. Will South Africa be able to avoid repeating history, or is it about to slide into 3rd World status?

news.com.au, is that one of Rupert Murdoch's rags?

I can't find anything about this shocking development in The Guardian.

    Nor in de Volkskrant.

    Nor in the Dagens Nyheter.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine has an article about it:
Südafrikas weiße Farmer wehren sich gegen Enteignung (2018-02-28) [faz.net]

But there they talk about an "Antrag" which I think means "proposal", "initiative".

    The article says:

So 75% of the land is currently owned by white farmers, and in 1994 when Apartheid ended it was 85%. And the ANC could get a majority coalition in parliament to change the laws.

It could be that Ramaphosa wants to distract attention from the ANC's struggle with internal corruption. How disappointing.

    Le Monde reports:
Le Parlement sud-africain ouvre la voie à l’expropriation sans compensation des terres [lemonde.fr]

    They say Ramaphosa says:

Nous n’autoriserons pas des interventions s’apparentant à du vol […] nous ne ferons pas les erreurs que les autres ont commises. »

(clearly he means their neighbours, Mugabe and his War Vets in Zimbabwe)
of course he would say that, wouldn't he? But how will it all work out.. Farmers are married to their land..

I'm not familiar with the SA media landscape at all, lemme just try something..

Huisgenoot [netwerk24.com] doesn't mention it, but it is a weekly magazine, so maybe next week.

Rapport [netwerk24.com] doesn't mention it, and it looks more news oriented than Huisgenoot, but maybe on Sunday they'll report on it.
Currently the articles are of the calibre "netball player called somebody a poopie-head" and "100 sex slaves rescued from East Cape sect". Politics section has a warning about a mr. Mabuza who is "a lot worse than Ramaphosa".

    NO! WAIT! I found it!!!

Afrikaander news, all about this disowning of farmers. I knew that an Afrikaans language newspaper would most likely give a different opinion than the official voice of the government (== of the ANC).

Shit it's paywalled: "Ons wil graag hê jy moet langer kuier. Teken in en kry onbeperkte toegang tot 11 Afrikaanse tydskrifte en 35 koerante."

So, more fake Swedish Afrikaaner racist news, then! SoylentNews is reaching new levels of falling for alt-right memes. At least I hope the eds are just falling for them, instead of furthering them. How about a nice aristarchus submission? Guaranteed not to be fake or racist! Might call some Nazis names, though.
