Suppose, a litre of cola costs US$3.15. If you buy one third of a litre of cola, how much would you pay?

The above may seem like a rather basic question. Something that you would perhaps expect the vast majority of adults to be able to answer? Particularly if they are allowed to use a calculator.

Unfortunately, the reality is that a large number of adults across the world struggle with even such basic financial tasks (the correct answer is US$1.05, by the way).

[...] In many other countries, the situation is even worse. Four in every ten adults in places like England, Canada, Spain and the US can't make this straightforward calculation – even when they had a calculator to hand. Similarly, less than half of adults in places like Chile, Turkey and South Korea can get the right answer.

Let me tell you, I inherited a mess. Big debt, terrible infrastructure -- look at what happened in Florida today -- crippling taxes. And I'm working with Congress to make it all so much better. We started with the taxes, we did the biggest Tax Cut in history. And now so many folks are getting bonuses. So many getting bigger paychecks. And we're seeing people who before -- under Obama -- couldn't afford a Costco membership, now they can afford that. They're moving up in the world. Because of me.

But I didn't forget the debt. We're a debtor nation. That's so true. The media has not reported that the National Debt in my first month went down by $12 billion vs a $200 billion increase in Obama's first month. And in my first 7 months the debt went down by $102 billion. I lost $1 billion of my own money, it was a lot. $102 billion is A LOT, A LOT -- if $1 billion was like a penny, $100 billion would be like a dollar, as everybody knows. But, not reported!!!!
