Hacker who gave up Wikileaks source dies

Adrian Lamo, a computer hacker best known for passing on information that led to the arrest of Chelsea Manning, has died aged 37. In online messaging conversations, Manning confided in him, describing confidential military material Manning had sent to Wikileaks.

[...] The cause of Lamo's death, confirmed to the BBC by the Sedgwick County coroner in Kansas, has not yet been made public.

[...] Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on Friday described Lamo as a "petty conman and betrayer of basic human decency".

Adrian Lamo.

I'm sick of most the comments above - no matter how despicable in life, every human deserves the minimal respect of her/his dead not being transformed into a celebration.

I'm not going to be dancing on Lamo's grave. I don't think he did anything that bad. But you say, no matter how despicable? Really? So how about those ISIS that raped innocent children and women? How about Hitler and related that systematically sent children and others to gas chambers?? How about the perpetrators of ethnic cleansing in Myanmar?

There are people for whom death is too light an escape and dancing on their grave is the least one can do. Having said that, this Lamo guy doesn't really fit that description so this is kind of a tangent comment to a tangent reply.

    A first approximation [soylentnews.org]

My opinion, in a more detailed granularity:
    1. it is the damage caused I decry and hope it never happened or it stopped sooner...
    2. ... I can only wish the perpetrator doesn't need to die for that damage to stop occurring...
    3. ... if the only way for the damage to stop is by the death of the perpetrator, so be it - the death becomes a mean, an unfortunate one to be more precise. I won't rejoice the death of the perpetrator, I'll only be happy that no new damage occurs.

Being happy of the death makes one a pointless vengeful bastard - and mind you, the biggest sin is not being a "vengeful bastard", is the pointless one.
E.g. to what good is that Hitler died when he did, the catastrophe of the WWII was already over at that time.

The satisfaction expressed by some of the comments above for the death of Adrian Lamo is a totally perverse one:
    - his death doesn't right his past wrong
    - he made a big mistake once fer God sake. As big that mistake was, he was "neutralized" already by his "acquired fame" - he didn't "need" to die to stop further mistakes of the same nature, no further damage could occur because nobody else would confide in him.

He was pulling this shit as soon as he was 'out on parole.' At 2600 meetings and the like, trying to dig up dirt on people he could use as an informant. The Bradley Manning limeline just proved that all the hackers who'd nudged and sshhed and said not to talk around him were right.

This is also why the meatspace hacker meetings have been slowly dying out. Everybody could be a narc and with every person having a spy in their pocket, even if the other guy isn't intentionally spying on you the corps or the government might be.

Gone are the days where get togethers in seedy food courts or subway stations are still safe ways to congregate.

Good thing the Buddhists put an end to the muslums trying to kill them in their own country. Islam for you. Move into another country then try to take over. If the locals resist cry racism until they are forced to stop. Then continue murdering and raping the locals.

Muslims tried to start ethnic cleansing in Burma. They failed. Now they are paying the price for waging war. Expect to see this happen again again as they move into other peoples territory.
