One of the latest experimental candidates for a male birth control drug is a compound that would be taken much like the daily birth control pill available for women. A pilot study presented Sunday at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting suggests that the compound—called dimethandrolone undecanoate (DMAU)—can be safe and effective in human test subjects.

[...] DMAU is meant to act on the same receptors as testosterone and progestin. But it seems to be more easily absorbed by the body and longer-lasting. That theoretically means a single dose a day (when taken with food) should cause sterility without leading to other serious consequences, the authors say.

[...] The few side effects Page's team observed were weight gain and lowered levels of HDL cholesterol (the "good" kind). But they feel a tweaked dose could alleviate these symptoms. Importantly, the pill didn't seem to cause any other lasting symptoms of low testosterone. Eight men in the treatment group did report lower libido, but the effect faded away after treatment had ended.

I already know the answer to this, so I'm mostly being rhetorical by asking, *but*...you *do* know "alpha" and "beta" and suchlike aren't accurate terms for human relationships, don't you? They don't even apply to our closest primate cousins, the bonobo or pygmy chimpanzees.

Besides which, what does this classification scheme make you then, a "zeta?" An "omega?" I know how to deal with those (Ice Beam followed by Super/Diffusion Missiles) at least...

They don't even apply to wolves, which is the species that originated the concept. It turns out that when you look at a wild canine pack, another name for the "alphas" is "parents". In other words, the basic canine pack is a family unit: Mom, dad, and a litter or two worth of pups. As the pups get to adulthood, they are encouraged to separate off and find a nice partner to hook up with, and form their own pack. So the alpha wolves are no more bosses than a mama swan leading around her chicks.

Then again, expecting VLM to know...well, to know jack shit about jack shit, is a fool's errand, it seems. I really wonder about that guy's mental stability sometimes.

Pro dog trainer here... alpha, beta, and what I call a "nobody" are indeed very definite personality types in dogs (and can be selected for or against, too), and there are good parallels in humans; however, the way the Game types use the terms is pretty much bogus (most of the guys who proclaim themselves alphas are hilariously beta).

As a D-type myself, I don't think that would be so useful for VLM. I think VLM is more of a SAM [submissiveguide.com], and should be treated as such.

Much in the spirit of race and IQ being concepts that rhetorically don't exist but in practice do exist, you'll have to define the word "is" to my satisfaction before I can educate you on the topic of human relationships that also rhetorically don't exist, LOL.
